So long story short, I got this Friedr Ehrbar piano for about the cost of the moving fee. I have not seen it in person, and won't until Friday when it arrives. The owner got it in a bulk purchase of storage units and has no space for a random dusty piano in his (non music related) store.

So does anybody know anything about this piano? Any idea about what year it is?

He says all the keys work except one (which you can see is missing a string). The wood appears to be in ok condition, no visible cracks in the metal, though I imagine it sitting in a hot storage unit for who knows how long has not been kind to the plate or soundboard! From the pics there are a few cracks in the external wood.

I did my research before deciding to take it, and from what I can tell there is virtually no resell value on these, which I'm fine with.

Worst case scenario, I turn the metal frame into a sweet art piece for my wall.

What should I do?

Cheers!

Looks a lot like the Bösendorfer in the other thread, except this one has a Viennese action. So I would say early 1880s. Jurgen, who used to post here as Supply, might have parts for it.

Interesting. Any thoughts on the level of wear on it? Think it might be worth bringing back to life?

Hmm, is he no longer active?

I would not have taken it. My feeling is that there are tons of decent old American grands which are better candidates for resuscitation. I could probably get better pianos out of two of them for the amount of effort it would take to revive this one.
