I hate the thought of junking a Steinway upright. It needs repair in all aspects. I have ivories saved off another piano. I was going to rebuild this piano but I have to move within the next month and will not have room for it. Anyone interested or suggestions

Barbara Ann, google piano furniture/desks on the internet. I've seen many vertical pianos repurposed into useful pieces of furniture. One of our clients even has an old vertical piano that was converted into a single hide-a-bed. It's awesome!

Being a Steinway, you might find someone willing to take it off your hands for free and get it out of the way. You might even be able to get a few bucks for it from an enthusiastic buyer/refurbisher.

Otherwise, you might have to pay someone to haul it off for you.

Advertise it on Craigslist for a few hundred dollars and state the condition and see what happens. You might be surprised.

Good luck.

I helped someone remove the works of a piano (very laboriously loosened every string!!) in preparation for conversion to a fishtank. The piano was surprisingly lightweight with no iron frame, strings or action. He was working on retaining the key front sections. I never saw the finished article, though.

Fuggedabout making furniture or firewood from it. Given the Steinway name, you'll find someone who'll want it as an instrument. Rebuilders watch Craigslist every minute, it'll go in a flash.
