Less than 4'10" - noisy furniture
4'10" to 5'5" - baby grand
5'6" to 5'11" - medium grand
6' to 7' - parlour grand (6' and longer - professional length)
7' to 8' - semi-concert grand
8' and above - concert grand

Some people say that descriptions such as Baby Grand, etcétera, are not really recognised by the industry. I don't know. Suffice to say that all of these are grand pianos, but of varying lengths. I would agree that a very short grand piano is silly, and that it makes more sense to buy an upright which is the same size or bigger.
