I bought my P120 used in about January. I think it's 10-years old or so. Everything was working fine when I got it.

A few keys stick when I play them now, especially D2. I think I created this problem by playing with too much force recently (was experimenting with Pianoteq curves). Basically, when you press the key, it stays down until you manually pull it back up. Not all the way down, just partially. It still sounds like it should.

I bought it from a Guitar Center 1,000 miles away sight unseen, and I don't think they'd offer me much help anyway. It's obviously out of warranty by Yamaha. What should I do? I can't afford a new instrument right now, at least not for a few months, and I just bought Pianoteq, so this is a bummer. Any help is appreciated.

Perhaps there is just a part where it's rubbing against the keys next to it or the piece of plastic/metal that sits in front of the keys. If that's the case, then fixing it shouldn't be much of a problem, but does entail opening it up.

Another possibility is that a spring has become dislodged or isn't strong enough to return to it's normal position that may need replacing or it might be easy enough to put it back where it belongs.

Either way, it's important to determine exactly what is causing the issue before we can really suggest corrective measures. You should be able to fix it yourself, I'd think.

Thanks, Morodiene! I'll open it up tonight and see if there's anything different about the culprit keys.

Hi Dwscamel,

The issue you describe might also be caused by the breaking of a small part of the keys (a sort of small wing on the side of the key, that can only be seen by removing the key). If that is the case, you will need to replace the keys.

Removing and replacing the keys is not very difficult, but it require some care and knowledge.
In case you want a reference video please let me know.

If needed, you can still find spare parts for the keys on the internet (you can check Ebay for example).

Ciao,
Paolo
