Great to see that you are getting back into it, Johan!
I'm reviewing, memorizing, and playing my 4th micro piece on both keys, voice, and the trumpet.
It's slowly evolving.
Getting side-tracked by music software also.

Czerny's Piano School Vol. 1, now at #77 and giving it a break.

Thanks for your words RKP! Always nice to see that we're not anonyme among menbers. It's not clear to me what kind of piece you're studying.........

14 March

Years ago.......I think it was in 1971 or 1972.......I played Bach's Pastorale BWV590 in concert. I play the third part Air regularly in piano modus for it's a wonderful piece of music. Original it's written for organ.

This afternoon I played the whole 'suite' on my Kawai CA95 several times in harpsichordmodus. I used the harpisichord + 4 and take the Kirnberger temper. I was back in the baroque period.....mmmmmmm 3hearts 3hearts

Of course I played other things....but this experience I have share.....

Best regards,
Johan B

March 16

The day before, I was up late working on Monday morning production problems (IT) so I took it easy the following day for work. Sat at the piano at 8PM and didn't leave until 10PM. Did a play-through of my existing repertoire and focused on the parts that always gave me trouble.

Started new music -- the Stones song from the Ultima games.

http://www.vgmpf.com/Wiki/index.php?title=File:Ultima_5_-_DOS_-_Stones_-_Sheet_-_1.png

The score itself seems to have been printed directly from the game MIDI files since I don't see how it's possible to hold down E1 with the left-hand pinky for the entire measure while walking up D2 G2 B2-flat twice. I experimented with using the middle sostenuto pedal to "hold-down" the root bass note -- works but seems a bit of a hack since not all acoustics have this pedal. Sustain pedal works but makes it all too washed out (in game, it's a harpsichord). Pretending it's 1/8th instead of a full note seems like the best option.

I'm onto my 5th micro-piece.
Quite a bit more challenging...contortionist style chord fingerings for the RH to enable legato phrases...a 16th note phrase in the LH...a couple accented notes only in the LH against 'normal' ones in the RH.
To top it off with a kind of 'prepared' note style in the melody, which has never come natural to me.
But I will likely fix that now with vocalization.

I found a more organized version of Ultima Stones on Scribd. My initial version spilled over to 3 page. The compact version puts parts 1+2 on page 1 and part 2 on page 2 -- amazing how much better the progress has been with better mental organization.

I experimented with multiple methods of hitting the 4 sequence of notes on the left hand (A1 -> E2 -> A2 -> C3) from holding down sustain, holding down sostenuno, staccato, cross-over -- seems like the best option is to simply stretch with pinky on A1 to middle finger to E2.

I also installed Lilypond and Frescobaldi to convert a MIDI file of Ultima Exodus to a piano score. This is good stuff -- way faster to input scores by typing in C-B versus dragging notes onto a score.

Been practicing Turkish March by Mozart and Spring by Vivaldi. Couldn't come up with money for lessons so gona try to go at it alone for a while. Having really trouble making time though everyday and slowing my mind down.

music to me is kind of like putting together pieces of a puzzle
i call it the paino because its where i put all my pain
