There all kinds of songs that used many many time signatures. For example, one uses a 4/4 time, 2/2 time and so forth. I like to know how and what makes that song the time signature it is? For example if I want to write a song, how I do make it as a 3/4 or 4/4 timed song?

It's the bass rhythm you're after.

2/2 BOOM pah BOOM pah
4/4 BOOM pah Boom pah
3/4 BOOM pah pah
6/8 boom pah boom pah boom pah
5/4 DAH DAH (pah) DAH (pah)

I haven't played much 7/8

Really? that's what make the song's time signature? For example, I have two of my favorite country songs on piano sheet music. Lady Antebellum's Bartender is in 4/4 time and David Nail's Whatever She's Got is cut time, 2/2 time. If I listened to them carefully, how can I tell that these songs are in their corresponding time signature?

You need to read something like this to understand beats and the pulse of a piece, weak and strong beats etc

I really only thought there was 4/4 or 3/4 or multiples of those... till I heard "The Eleven" from the Grateful Dead, written in 11/8 time...

BOOM boom boom BOOM boom boom BOOM boom boom Pah Pah

Then I heard "Estimated Prophet" in 7/8 and realized that you are only limited by your imagination.

Also think dance foms. Does it sound like a waltz- use 3/4. Like a march - use 2/4 or 4/4. Like a jig - use 6/8

6/8 has pulses BOOM da da Ba da da . Its closer to 2/4 than 3/4

3/8, 6/8, and 9/8 also keep you from writing a lot of triplet notes. 9/8 is like 3/4 with LOTS of triplets. Easier to read 9/8.

Get the app. Finale. Once you start a new composition, and select a time signature it won't let you cheat. You may make any number of disposable test compositions to familiarize yourself.

Rhythm & Chords, it's what I do.

The examples and the link to Beats in Wikipedia were really helpful.
