Shanghai born Weiwen Ma has performed in Carnegie Hall, The Town Hall in Manhattan, the Aspen Music Festival Shanghai Concert Hall, Shanghai Great Grand Theater and currently the Tuesday Musical Association. Ma won the Cleveland Institute of Music Concerto Competition (2009,) the Bradshaw & Buono International Piano Competition (2009,) placed third at the First Chinese International Piano Competition (2008,) and won prizes at The World Piano Competition, the Corpus Christi International Competition for Piano and Strings, Kankakee Young Artist Piano Competition and the Thousand Islands Piano Competition. She has also been noted for premiering several works of award-winning composer and conductor Ruo Huang. She received her Bachelorâ€™s degree at the Oberlin Conservatory. "I'm still not sure how Weiwen physically created the sophistication and finesse required to command the technical and musical magnitude of the Ravel or Chopin on an instrument whose tonal capacity and action were, shall we respectfully say, 'limited...'
