If it has the slightest amount of radiation, it won't be admitted into the US.

Besides which there's almost no chance that a P105 actually comes from Japan!

Hehe...at first I thought this was a joke but I guess it's a valid concern. I think you can buy a gieger counter for about $100. I heard they scan the seafood at grocery stores

Impreza, is this specifically because of Fukushima and the tsunami a few years ago? As mentioned above, if an item is radioactive, it's not getting anywhere near you because of customs. Order from Japan with confidence and don't worry.

Impreza, not to make fun of you but you're question is so "not of this world naive" that it is not likely that you will get a serious answer on it.

I actually think that it is impossible to keep radiation out of my house so I always wear protective gear.

My option would be taking Sertralina 100mg/day. Seriously.

OK folks I've let this thread go for a while and it's really starting to get on my nerves.

Why you ask?

I have two family members that live within two hours of the Fukishima plant. There have been many many tests done in the surrounding areas as far as the food supply, environment, etc. over the past several years. There are virtually no measured radiation levels that are close to any threshold considered to be of any concern.

So unless your potential piano purchase was sitting in the lobby of the reactor when the tidal wave hit, find something else in the world to worry about. There are unfortunately many many things going on right now that should concern folks.

The question you need to ask is "can a largely plastic gadget be contaminated by ionizing radiation from a nuclear accident?".

I don't know. But my limited understanding finds it difficult to conceive of a plastic that has been affected by ionizing radiation. Living matter - like a fish, plant, human - and I suspect matter like timber or leather could be affected.

Your profile doesn't indicate what country you live in, but I would contact your local university - probably Physics Department and ask their opinion.
