So I was able to do what you advised and turn the CN-35 off and then play all the keys. The all sound the same and "normal".

Then I just watched your YouTube video and I agree with the idea that it sounds like something got loose. In any case, I do not have that sound/issue here.

Did you play a lot before that started to happen? We have a one hour piano lesson a week, I practice about 20min/day on average and every now and then my kids torture the thing for a couple of minutes.

I have to correct myself. Three keys, middle c (c1, right), c and C (in other words, the next two c's on the left side) make a different sound than the others on letting go. It is not so pronounced as in your YouTube video, I think, but it is there. Middle c, which is probably one of the most played keys so far (the three weeks we have it) is worst, the two others less so.

At the moment, I can only hear it, when the DP is off, or when I play middle c very gentle.

I'll have to see if this gets worse in the next days/weeks.

Hopefully more will notice as well as Kawai. Clearly there seems to be something going on with the CN keyboards.

No response from kawai as of yet.

The store did send the video from my piano and the one at the store to their kawai rep. Guess everyone is busy with the NAMM. I should hear something next week. At least i will return my cn35 next week and wait for better things to come. Like the ca67.

Indigo, I see.

May I ask if you are based in the US?

Okay, thank you.

Yes, as you note, NAMM is a very busy time for many members of staff at Kawai America, so it may take a few days for your case to be followed-up. Please remain patient.

Kind regards,
James

James,
Would you not consider the key action in the CA65 to be superior to the one in the CN35?

I figured. What about the sampling technic between these two? Is the piano sampling of a better quality in the ca65 compared to the cn35?

Hello Indigo,

My apologies for this delayed response.

Yes, the CA65 piano sound is superior to that of the CN35.

CN65: HI-XL (Harmonic Imaging XL, 88-key sampling = latest and best available)
CN35: PHI (Progressive Harmonic Imaging, 88-key sampling)

In order of expressiveness:

- Harmonic Imaging (discontinued)
- Harmonic Imaging, 88-key sampling (ES100, KDP90/KCP90)
- Progressive Harmonic Imaging, 88-key sampling (CN series)
- Ultra Progressive Harmonic Imaging, 88-key sampling (CA63/CA93, MP10)
- Harmonic Imaging XL, 88-key sampling (CA65/CA95, MP7/MP11, CA67/CA97)

I hope this helps.

Kind regards,
James

I plan to keep mine, I like it :-). I have contacted Kawai Support in .de and offered to send a recording of the let off. Lets see what happens.

I got my cn35 couple days ago. On the first day i didn't find anything, but today i certanly found some keys with similar letoff sound problem described here. It isn't that loud and it is only occuring when you do jumpy letoffs, so i haven't decided if this is a real problem for me. I will re-evaluate my views again after couple of weeks of playing.

In any case, such findings are unexpected with otherwise fine DP.

There's more to it - you can reproduce this "double bouncing" with every key - by giving just a slight pull. I suppose it's the hammer bouncing and in Indigo890's case it is an uncushioned/loose bouncing.

Judging by the pictures, the RHIII is RHII with added hammer weights and counterweights - so the hammer movement inside of RHIII has more intertia, hence the double bounce. So the more you play, the lighter the hammer movement becomes and the more bounce you get.

I think i will report my technical speculations to Kawai's support and consult local music shop about how to handle the situation.

My kawai dealer will not sell the cn35 untill something has been done by kawai. Apperently they had one at the show as well with this problem.
