yes my Everett is an upright piano made in 1970. It sounds great to me but action is as light as a keyboard.

Keep the Charles Walter or buy the Kawai.

Kawai K3 is a nice piano but it would be nice to hear from someone here who has personally tested Yamaha's new B series.
I have - but prefer others writing about their experience.
Anybody out there?

I think the question of Kawai vs. Yamaha can only be answered by the buyer, period. Both brands are well made, with a reputation for quality.

However, in my experience both the feel of the action and overall sound are very different for these brands.

IMHO the advice of someone else recommending one brand over the other is virtually worthless. The buyer and only the buyer can make this decision.

In today's market "brand" is no longer what it used to be - we're often dealing with multiple layers of qualities by same maker.

That's why it's so important to compare on a model-to-model basis, ideally at same of at least similar prices.

That's why I asked if anybody has had a chance to try the new Yamaha B series uprights and what they thought about it.

At least Op should - he's the one buying...

Search this forum about the b3. I remember quite a few discussions about it and remember one of the techs here felt the U1 and b3 were very close. I've played one a bit and thought it was fine.

Irrespective of the quality a consumer piano's build, it is the perception of where a piano is built that affects a potential buyer. A Japanese piano which is made for example in Indonesia will not evoke as positive a response as knowing that the Kawai or Yamaha piano was made in Japan.
Dealers are well aware of this and a current challenge for them is to convince people to buy Chinese made or "assembled" pianos.

Kind regards,

Robert.

I only just read this. Any dealer who describes Kawai as "poor quality" doesn't deserve to be taken seriously! I would certainly go elsewhere.

FYI Norbert;

My comments above were not in relation to your post above mine. It was more in regard to the general comments like "Buy the Kawai, etc."

Regarding keeping the Walter you are saving costs of moving pianos, dealer's profit, taxes etc.
