I recently brought a digital piano "ROLAND F-130R" I love the way it feels and sound. But i have this problem, i can't seem to record a clear audio sound. I tried recording through a flash drive but it gave me a MIDI file. I also tried connecting to my computer via USB but no sound is going through when i am using "AUDACITY" but it work with "SYNTHESIA"

At the rear of my digital piano, it only have one line out 3.5mm jack, and i can't seem to find a tutorial in the internet about my situation.
What should I do? Do i need a DAC? Do I need a 3.5mm jack to RCA cable?
What equipment do i need?
What can i do to achieve the best audio quality from my piano?

You should use a phone jack (3,5mm) between the output of the F130R and the LINE-IN of the PC. The USB link only exchange MIDI events, not the sound of the piano.

Hi thanks for helping me. ^^ But, my laptop has only a 3.5mm jack port for head phone
I tried line out to line in to pc. But no sound is going through. =(
Anyway. Normal 3.5mm jack cable will work fine right?

I have tried with a mic entry of my laptop without good results. You can buy an audio-usb card like the Behringer UCA202 or UCA222. These are entry level cards (around 30€) - best result could be expected with more expensive cards (i.e. Focusrite 2i2, Steinberg UR22, Presonus AudioBox USB...), but I havn't tried these cards.

Yes, you should have a cable adapted to the card.

Some things to watch out for if you record Roland F130R or RP401R to a computer from the analog output on the back panel:

-The signal level from the 3.5mm output is controlled by the volume buttons on the front panel.
-To get the cleanest possible recording (minimum background hiss) you should increase the volume to 100.
-With the volume right up, the sound from the speakers is likely too loud for either you, your family or neighbors frown
-Plug headphones in to mute the speakers.
-Now that you've plugged the 'phones in, remember to turn the volume back up (for a clean recording) because the headphone output volume level is remembered separately to the speaker level.
-Avoid being deafened: use 'phones with their own volume control, or get a little in-line volume control cable from eBay.
-The reverb (press Piano and the +/- buttons), or the 3D headphone effect (F06 in the functions menu) will be included in the output signal, so turn the effects off if that's not what you want.

I hope that's helpful or interesting!

Steven

I used Windows 8.1 running a free audio editor called "Audacity": http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

It runs on Mac and Linux too.
