Those are pretty specific gifts, I wonder if they got any clues smile

My wife and I decided last year to stop giving each other gifts and so find myself a little empty handed. As a New Year gift to myself I have ordered The Rhythm Bible by Dan Cox.

What a nice gifts!
My family doesn't know anything about music, so they never give me anything piano related (except one "piano pencil"). But I wanted to encourage them to even listen to the classical music, so I recorded a CD for them with some nice pieces performed by me. I don't know if they like it, but I tried wink. I put it on my youtube channel also: christmas gift

During Thanksgiving weekend two of my sisters, who were visiting from out of town, stopped by my apartment to see my new DP. They noticed that the music sheets kept sliding off the music stand and asked why that kept happening. I explained that the keyboard stand itself wobbles a little while playing and sometimes the music slides off. I told them that eventually I planned on picking up a used music stand I could set up behind the DP.

Today at my mother's house she told me that I had two boxes out in the garage that my sister's had sent. You guessed it. I know have two Manhasset music stands, since one was a double wide I now have stands stretching from end to end of my DP.

It's been a while since I visited the forums but I thought I'd pop in today to wish everyone a merry Christmas. I was the lucky recipient of a humorous gift from my family - a ukulele! I often say "You can't have too many guitars" so ...

That adds to my (humble) collection of two electric guitars, one acoustic guitar, now one ukulele and, of course, my piano (which was their gift to me for my 60th birthday (now three years ago today). PS It's Boxing Day in my time zone.

I found I was able to play the basics of the Third Man/Harry Lime theme on the ukulele in about three minutes. Just the instrument for it. And such a simple tune.

Guitar since 1966. Piano (Kawai DP80) since 2011.

I got a book of jazzy Christmas favourites, and the score for Shumann's Concerto in A minor for piano and orchestra.......I was a bit taken aback by this as I'd asked for the Album for the Young......I can barely read the score, much less have any hope of ever playing it in this lifetime - but it was a nice thought - even comes with multiple CDs - including one for slower practice.

Casinitaly,

Nice gift you got, just a little practice......... grin grin
Perhaps you can bring the score back to the store, explain it and buy another score. I also have some scores in my bookcase that never will be finished in my life.....

Christmas greetings from here,
Johan B

Yes, they have some clues. They don't play piano, but they do have sense of music....

A piano is certainly a gift that keeps on giving!
I am sure mine (new last fall) will qualify for many more years.

My BF got me two microphones to record my playing! No more crappy cell phone videos for me! I was SO surprised. I only mentioned it in passing, and he totally researched it.

I was also given volumes 1 & 2 of the Sher New Real Books, and that "Play Piano By Ear" book by Simon Schott that everyone recommended to me in my jazz thread last month. I am WELL equipped now to really hit the ground running. So excited!!
