A bit of honky tonk boogie woogie. I've found that by using the third chorus setting on piano I can get a nice honky tonk tone.
My dad used to play boogie woogie apparently and Ive always liked it. So here Im playing chords in the right hand and octaves in the bass.

Few mistakes crept in but hey, all part of the fun!

Just learned a Child is Born! Thanks for playing this great version. We'll be attempting to play it tonight.

Is there sheet music for this or just a lead sheet? I'm kind of in love with it, but my jazz piano skills are pretty non-existent.

Still plenty of hesitations and mistakes in both, I'm afraid. I lost North with the Snowman one a couple times as I was playing from memory, sorry. But still happy because I actually added notes to the easy version I had! laugh

Best wishes for the New Year!

I love that music from The Snowman. My parents had a kid's cd that had it when I was a kid and I played it all the time. You did a beautiful job with it.

I thought I'd pay a visit to the bar too...Merry Christmas everyone!

Your musical greeting

One of my favorite Christmas songs. I hope you'll excuse my poor reading...maybe I'll be able to memorize this before next year wink

Piano Primo

Enjoyed your medley. It had plenty going on in there, good transitions, and involved. Sort o` thing you might play in church before the carol service. A sort of Fantasia. Nice.

Evamar

Two good pieces to listen to; hadn`t heard the first before. The second was handled really well; this has an awful lot of stuff in it and your piano sounded excellent, Don`t tell anyone, (whisper) but to make a digital sound really acoustic, like, you have to . . .(almost inaudible now) knock it out of tune slightly . . . grin

Thanks for the positive feedback , I haven't left hardly any feedback comments myself because of some pressing issues , somewhat self created , although still practicing piano ;
Anyway hope to finish the second part of that medley ...

jazzwee~ good to see you here again. Glad I also hooked you into playing A Child is Born! I liked your bossa arrangement of Silent Night. Nice, natural flowing lines throughout. Your playing is so good!

Elssa~ I like that tune, Harlem Nocture - I have a hard time making sense of the whole note section. Maybe the lyrics would help sort it out. Good work on that one.

Larry~ You got the swing going Silent Night - a foot tapper for sure. Very excellent job.

piano_primo_1~ very nice and calm Christmas music. I need a larger attention span. It sounds to me as though you really enjoyed playing it, too.

AnneH~ That was a great first time only reading Vince Guarldi’s arrangement - wow! Very sweet playing of Merry Christmas Darling - to me, it sounded like you were really listening to the melody as you played it. I hope you find some solace with your family for the entire season.

As for A Child is Born, it was done from a Lead Sheet,

outo~ Thank you for sharing your Holiday music - nicely done!

evamar~ I liked the Arcade Fire - yes, it is reminiscent of Satie in some ways. Very good playing.

Kenjazz~ I am sorry you caught the A Child is Born bug…Great rendition and it’s clear to me you are really listening to the music as you play it. I like the first take you shared. You are a good piano player.

Thanks so much for your kind comments. Still a very very long way ahead and lots of improvement to do, but all in all I'm quite happy with this first year learning the piano, hopefully next year I'll be able to give you a better piece together with my holiday wishes.

Of course I would be even happier had I won the Spanish lottery, but no luck... nada! grin

Merry Christmas!

Ken, that was beyond cool! Horizontally laid back and very pro sounding. Couldn`t imagine listening to anything nicer . . . whilst having a wee dram or three . . .holed up in a hotel in Scotland (it snows there, you know) . . I can dream!

That was a nice greeting, outo! Seasonal and sounding a bit French . . . I wish I was French!

Now how did that happen? It's a very traditional Finnish song after all grin

Thanks Peter and Glen! I finally did the blog post on this one.

A Child Is Born Blog Post

If you are not inclined to read it, I have this story at the end that you might find interesting:

My piano teacher was telling me the story of seeing the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra live at the Village Vanguard many years ago. This was a very large band, maybe eighteen pieces. When it was time for them to start their set, there were only about eight players there! Thad Jones started anyway, and players started to dribble in. By the time the piece concluded, they were all there for the big final note! How cool is that....
