All notes from G6, including all white and black keys are slightly sustained automatically, without pressing the damper padel. Not that much, but noticable. I was trying to play staccato on F6 and G6, clearly noticed the difference. tried the Designer app but couldn't do anything.

G6 is the #11 white key counted from the right side of the keyboard.

That is how acoustic pianos work. It is normal.

Why? Sorry for the dumb question.
I had played on an Yamaha upright loooong time ago, but didn't notice this. It sounds weired when you play staccato on F6 and then G6.

That's because acoustics typically have much longer sustain on all their notes compared to digitals, so the transition to undamped strings aren't so noticeable. (High notes don't need to be damped because their sound die away so quickly). Or maybe you didn't play much on those high notes a loooong time ago? wink

If the HP508 allows you to increase the level of sustain, do so - it will get you closer to that of acoustics. Check with your RD800, and you'll see.

BTW, this question crops up regularly here - about every six months......

It helps create resonance, too, I suppose.

Just try again on an acoustic. Then dampen those non-dampened strings and listen to the sound, how unnatural (let alone ugly) things can be.

OK, high frequencies lose energy real quick and won't travel very far, so these strings aren't dampened to allow the notes to sustain long enough and to travel further. Imagine a concert hall, nice an big, and those notes just sound like something has fallen... Yikes!

I can confirm that this is normal behaviour for your HP508.

I think it's because on acoustics the sustain on these high notes is very short anyway. So they save the effort of placing dampers there.
