I'm going to share this link. It's just something I posted for my music teacher to hear, because I'm trying to work out some technical issues with her, and only have so much time. It's basically an improv on some progressions I came up with, maybe it might become a song at some point. But what may be of interest is that I recorded the thing at a very low volume (2am, and didn't wish to wake up the house), and did so via a cell phone sitting on the end of the piano. The consequence is that the keys themselves, can be heard, which makes it almost unlistenable in musical terms, but almost palpable relative to the feel of the instrument. I wondered if some of the many people that keep asking about the action of this board, may benefit from hearing this perspective of the keys? Maybe I'm just sleep deprived. Oh well... so it goes. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10152811577503011&set=vb.512553010&type=2&theater

The link doesn't allow me to watch the video, but I think with any DP if you turn down the volume, you will hear the action. The same goes for any acoustic too, if you were able to disconnect the action from the strings, you will hear the noise. I have not played the RD-800, but I have heard a lot of great things in comparison to previous Roland actions, so I don't think you should be upset with it. In the future, if you need to play silently, use headphones.

Not sure I fully understand post. Any DP is going to have some key noise. My RD800 keys are very quiet. Significantly more so than my ES7.

It could be interesting in terms of the kind of noise the keys make....as we already know, the sheer volume of noise is less than on Roland's previous top keyboards.

. . . But what may be of interest is that I recorded the thing at a very low volume (2am, and didn't wish to wake up the house), and did so via a cell phone sitting on the end of the piano. . . . So the vibration of the keys was mechanically coupling to the cellphone case? It wouldn't matter _what_ you were playing, it would sound bad. . Charles

Hmmm... this link works for me, but it's a Facebook link - so possibly you have to be logged on to Facebook to hear it? It was just something that sounded interesting to me, as the sound my phone recorded seemed to identify something about the action's character...it's definitely not a musical link. I'll check my security settings on Facebook also... I just have read a lot of questions about the RD800 (and other DP's) wondering about their relative key noise, key sound - soft bottom or thunk../etc etc... This was just something that may or may not be helpful for some My apology if this wastes anyone's time. Update: I think it will work now...

That sounds pretty good for being recorded on a cell phone.

Ya, that sounds like it's just the combination of the volume being low and the cell phone being on the piano. For comparison, try doing the same thing except put your phone on something else and turn up the volume to normal.

If you placed the phone on any DP you're going to hear noises and vibrations created by the keyboard action. This is a non-issue.
Don't worry about it, and perhaps next time use the built-in WAV/MP3 recorder.
Cheers, James x

Haha, I suppose I have failed to communicate effectively, and my post is confusing. I am not concerned, at all.. I just thought the action's sound gives a clue to the feel.. thought it might interest some. In reflection, I should have just recorded the sound of the keys for interests sake...fwiw I'm not worrying about the keybed sounds or its prominence in this bad recording. I just found it interesting
