And here we kick off with the Overture to Handel's Royal Fireworks Music. This is one of Handel's suites of music, as opposed to a concerto, and, like Bach's orchestral suites, is the form that eventually led to the symphony.

My current left hand study is this lovely little movement from Beethoven's E flat major sonata, Op. 31 No. 3, 'The Hunt', which is lovelier still when played by someone else and especially someone as capable as Claudio Arrau.

A big finish to my postings for today, Brahms' Violin Concerto. I don't think there's a violin concerto by any of the great composers that doesn't satisfy but this is one of the best and right up there with Beethoven's.

Brahms was an eclectic and destroyed any of his music that he was unhappy with. As a result his entire output is worthy of attention. This one was written for and dedicated to his friend Joseph Joachim who was consulted during the composition and played the premiere.

Kyung Wha Chung is playing this on one of her two (!) Guarneri's. She also owns a Strad. A Guarneri sold last March for $16 million and was loaned to Anne Akiko Meyers for the rest of her life.

Have a great Sunday, everyone.

THEY tell me the Yappaneze brought out a plastic imitation Strad which sounded as good as a real one . . .my uncle (RIP) told me that about 50 years ago. So they should`ve improved on it by now . . .the plastic pianos are pretty good too . . . . .

It may have sounded it OK, but I wouldn't give $16 mill for it. laugh Could you print one on a 3d printer?

The Guarneri sounds excellent and a treat to hear it here, but yes, I am afraid I could have easily been fooled by a $1200 or even plastic imitation.

Lovely selections Richard! Just finished the Beethoven, lovely indeed, to listen to; but seems diabolical for playing laugh Hopefully I'll finish the rests and Griffin's upcoming evening postings during this week smile

Hi everyone! Sorry for the tardiness with my classical postings. Too much is going on. Anyways, I'll go ahead and post my few offerings now and without comment.

My first posting is:

I'm having a lot of fun checking out such a wide variety of videos and discovering new artists and types of music that I don't normally listen to. Here's one I'd like to share from one of my all time favorite country singers, John Denver, playing Seasons of the Heart on piano.

"From the Apollo Victoria Theater in London, England we hear John Denver's composition while he plays the piano. This is excerpted from a concert entitled JOHN DENVER - HIS GUITAR AND HIS MUSIC. The date is October 26, 1982. John considered this song one of his best."
