I got a chance to play one of these pianos today. Apparently there are only 3 in existence according to the salesman. I am not usually impressed by Yamaha pianos, but this one is completely different. It has a very different tone to it, I guess because of the unusual construction of it.

Yamaha NEO

At $90,000 I would still have to go with the Steinway B I had played earlier in the day. I had played some steinways before and not been very impressed with the shorter grands, but I can see why so many people like to play the larger concert size instruments that Steinway makes.

Of course now I wish I had never played the Steinway, because now I have to have one!!!!

I made the same mistake! laugh

Btw, I love the look of the NEO; it fits right in with the modern minimalist decor of my home, although I am using maple and aluminium, instead of cherry. My last home, however, was mostly cherry.

For something with a bit more power, check out the 7'6" Yamaha Disklavier PRO2000 . I imagine the cost of this would be equivalent to a Steinway D!

Knute,

I played this model with a Disklavier on it at the 2001 NAMM show. Although it was a bit noisy, I wasn't impressed.

Glad you liked the one you saw. smile

Isn't it just a C3 under all that flashy exterior...?

I'm not sure I like all these futuristic designs, such as the weird custom pianos that Schimmel build. I much prefer the more traditional styles, like the billiard leg Steinways.

I've seen one here in Oregon. Did you play this in Portland?

If not, then I doubt there are only three in existance.

If so, I tend to doubt everything the dealer here in Portland tells me.

Take that for what you will...

Cheers,
Francis
