I'm learning the piece and was searching YouTube of how the pros played bar 57, the 4 fingers chord. I noticed Barton didn't play the A flat of the chord. Any idea why? I normally watch Horowitz technique but his video doesn't show the fingering of this bar.

Thanks,
Brian

What do you mean how? It isn't difficult to reach, it's marked Pianissimo and the fingering is standard 1,2,4,5.

I roll it, as does Lisitsa, and have always done that. The score has precedents for it, as does Liszt's corpus, and I knew it from Rhondda Gillespie (in the early seventies) long before I learnt to play it (early eighties) and she rolled it.

I wouldn't use one Paul Barton video over the Liszt score. Play the Ab. The difficulty for me is playing the low Db soft enough for PPP and firm enough to last the distance.

Thank you, Richard. I wanted to see how it was played smoothly because I feel a bit awkward with #2 finger on bA, also where 1 and 5 placed on the keys may help reducing stress on the wrist at this far reaching position.
