Our church just purchased a Roland HP508 ... to be shared buy 6 musicians.

I would like to setup a custom sound, save this setting, and just recall it when my turn to play.

On my FP7 I believe it's called registration setting.

I briefly looked through the manual and saw a way to save the settings ... but did not see away to save multiple custom setting .

Anyone know more or can confirm if it can be done ?

dannac,

If you have an iPad, iPhone, or Android phone or tablet, download the new Piano designer App, available for free on their respective stores. (Google Play and the iTunes store)

Within this app you can create your custom settings and save them for recall from the app's Library at any time. You can connect to the piano using the WNA1100RL wireless adapter or the Apple Camera connection kit. For Android, it would be whatever the correct dock cable you would need.

In its current form, the HP508 doesn't have more that one save slot onboard. You'll find it if you check the index of the Owners manual for "Memory Backup".

Report it to their firmware team. This will be a new requirement, hopefully they add this functionality to the next firmware update.

I noticed the lack of registrations on the Roland HP series when considering a purchase. It's a terrible omission when you have like 20 different parameters that you can change on the piano sounds. It renders those settings almost pointless, if you have to write them down on a piece of paper and program them in each time you want to use a different one.

Kawai did include them on the CA95/65 but unfortunately the implementation is a huge fail, so they're only of very limited usefulness. I gather they might have got their act together for the MP11... it would be nice if they backported some of this stuff to the CA95 (well, we can dream).

Memory backup (saving each of the piano parameters so the instrument "boots" to your setup) has been a staple feature for a few series, Registrations, have not.

Not sure if this will addressed in the current series, or maybe a future one, but for now the Android and Apple apps do offer this functionality, and they are free of charge.

The designer Part of the app is amazing and well worth checking out to custom design your own library of pianos.

While it is not possible to re-adjust the settings of a Registration after it has been stored, the existing functionality (i.e. storing favourite sounds and settings to memories) is still useful.

The way custom sounds are stored on the MP series is obviously very different to that of a CA, due to the intended purpose of the instruments.

Kind regards,
James
