Just heard about the passing of composer Peter Sculthorpe.

I know that several members of PW have championed his music, including debrucey who has a wonderful performance of the composer's Night Pieces on youtube.

Typical. Everything sounds the same.

I've enjoyed his Requiem with orchestra and didgeridoo.

Typical. Negative, ill-timed criticism.

It's his string music which really speaks to me - his 18 string quartets, Irkanda IV, works for cello.

Yes, just like Rachmaninoff.

Koto Music has been on my to-do list for a while. I remember being entranced the first time I heard it live.

Very sad to hear. I love his music. His piano concerto is incredible. Also I love From Oceana, very violent music, totally different to his piano music.

I just gave his piano concerto another listen. It's like an elegy for Sculthorpe, with its mournful tone and complete lack of showy writing. Beautiful stuff.
