jazzyprof has somehow picked up a much earlier list showing far fewer takers than the most current (he's replied to an earlier timmyab post) so he'll have to come back to the thread, reply to the latest list and put up a fresh post with a different choice (a tip; always do a post 'preview' to at least make sure the opening instruction text is in red - that's a good sign!).

Valencia's appears to be the last intact update, so if FarmGirl or any new participant picks up from hers, ignoring jazzyprof's post, we should be back on track.

Nope, your hopes are dashed. Kind of surprising that a goofball TV character would be a tribute to a well respected journalist, but I can't find any confirmation of that story anyway.

The pseudonym has a personal meaning to me and nothing to do with Gomer, Ernie or even Denver Pyle.

I believe it's one piece only for now, but Morodiene will open it up for people to pick more in a while.
I think I will probably take on a second also, but I need to listen to more of his work to make a selection.

since it seems people are still picking firsts, let's hold off from selecting two.

Thanks for fixing the list, Farmgirl, I must not be in a time zone that everyone else is (or you guys are night-owls!).

Thank you.

Guys, pick the rest of Op 12. The one comes after mine sounds great for someone with great chops. Let's complete this great opus

I haven't really given the Op.12 a good listen before. For now I'm more than busy with what I picked. Good thing I have until March. I've already been putting tons of work into it. It's great that I'm getting a head start but bad that everything else I was doing is not getting attention.

Ok...ok... Teacher said up front it will slow my progression. It isn't a childish can or can't do kind of thing. My progression is a very well thought out, structured kind of thing. So it's really up to me. So ... I like Schumann enough to earn a picture of him at the bottom of my signature. It really shouldn't be too hard to do: Ein Choral. So I'm in. Hope I did this right.
I'll get it ready by Labor Day. Start recording then. Might actually have a good recording by March 15th. smile

Yay, Ron! In a way, your teacher is right, but in a way, not quite. Students go through fluctuations between learning & applying what they've learned in a performance. If a student does too much performing, they will not really be able to spend time on the technical building that they need to do - everything will be about making something performance ready. If too much time is spent just on learning, however, then there's no application to performing, which means not working pieces up to performance level. That finishing off that is done to get something ready for a deadline just isn't quite doable when there's no event to say, "This piece is performance ready!"

This recital is so far off into the future, that I really do not think it will hinder you one bit - in fact, just the opposite.

That's my fault. I failed to explain that she does have many pieces that must be finished off to performance level. The pieces were written in close cooperation with her late husband. He was a great melody writer. The lady finished learning to teach piano at Yale. She was teaching piano when there. She really knows what she's doing....big time. Not just playing, or even performing, but teaching piano has always been the focus of her life. It's all my fault for not explaining.

I very much look forward to doing this. It does fit in with my working on dynamics in a very pianissimo way.
I thought everyone could relate to how long it takes to get a good recording. smile

To sign up, hit the quote button of the most recent list in this thread, remove the quote in brackets at the beginning and end, and put your new selection & name in bold.

Note: I have tried to separate out multi-movement works where possible, so you could sign up for just one movement in a sonata. However, due to the large volume of music we have, if you wish to sign up for an entire Opus you may, as long as another person doesn't want to do a movement from that Opus.

RE: Morodiene
The Schumann Recital will be March 15, 2015.

We will be using the recital submission software that's been used in the past.

Rules:
1) Each person can sign up for one piece only (see Note below). Once everyone's selected what they want to do, then we will open it up for people to select a second (or third) piece
2) No duplicate entries are allowed
3) Submissions can be in audio or video format
4) It's not possible to do all of Schumann's music, but I would like to get all of Op 68 completed.

To sign up, hit the quote button of the most recent list in this thread, remove the quote in brackets at the beginning and end, and put your new selection & name in bold.

Note: I have tried to separate out multi-movement works where possible, so you could sign up for just one movement in a sonata.
