Other than the extra brace arm on the plate, the
different screws to hold the plate down, and a 1"
size difference, they appear to be pretty much similar models.

I'm looking at 1981 G2:

The way I understand it, the "C" was more of a professional/institution/concert model and "G" was more of a home/consumer model; both great pianos. I wouldn't be afraid to own a "G" series Yamaha.

Good luck!

Rick

I tune one of each for a dance program, and there are significant differences in how they look, but very little difference in how they feel or sound.

The extra brace arm on the plate is supposed to make
the C2 more stable.

Have you noticed a difference in tuning stability between
the two?

Not really. I tune them twice a year, whether they need it or not.
