I recently came across a movie called, "Grand Piano" with Elijah Wood. Story: A pianist returning to the stage five years after a public meltdown learns that a sniper will shoot him and his wife if he plays just one wrong note.
...talk about pressure on stage! Haven't seen it yet!

We just watched Grand Piano. They seemed to be aiming for a Hitchcockian type thriller, but some of the acting is rather silly in places. Still, it's worth a watch. I believe it's on Netflix live stream at the moment. Here's a lengthy list of piano/pianist related films: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_films_about_pianistsComposers depicted on film: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_composers_depicted_on_film

"The Mephisto Waltz" with Alan Alda, about a young pianist who trades his soul to the devil in return for virtuosity. Schlocky but fun.
"Song of Love" about the Schumanns, with Hepburn as Clara.

The Seventh Veil a complicated potboiler about a concert pianist and her teacher/manager/guardian. Stars James Mason, Ann Tod and Herbert Lom. The highlight is music by Benjamin Frankel.

Hi Angelus-Mortis,
I often watch and Australian film called "SHINE" its done in 1996 however it's a cracker of a film with awesome music. The 'Rach' piano sonatas are all through it. It stars an unknown actor then named Geoffrey Rush. Film was one I think help make Rush's career. Well worth a watch if you can track it down.
Take it easy,
Greg

The movie 'Scott Joplin' (which I have not yet seen), but outlines his life and how he became the prominent ragtime pianist we all know and love. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076674/

Thank you rysowers so much for including "The Legend of 1900". I have been looking for this film forever: Since my first watching it as a little boy, I have always wanted to have it. The fact that he was born on a ship and pretty much stays there forever is so amazing. Now I have it courtesy of this thread!
