I recently fell for the oldest one in the book and I'm wondering if there's any advice for my 'option b' which I will come to in a minute

After loving my 2nd hand clavinova cvp3 and wanting to upgrade I should have bought any of the thousands of higher level clavinovas. Instead I talked myself into a cheap baby grand.

Quite a bit of money later I have an untunable 1920s BG swallowing room in the house. The list of things I could have chosen to do better is long. It's been professionally inspected and although aesthetically very nice it's no longer an instrument.

Anyway in the depths of despair I experimentally removed the action and inserted the cvp3..... And it fits sufficiently well to 'work'....all but hidden with just a bit of extension of the key blocks to plug a small gap. It even sounds impressive too.

I have a decision now to take a decorative item price for the BG, permanently install the CVP (for an invisible installation I'll need to make take the cvp apart) or I could drop a few hundred into a more modern cvp and butcher it into the BG (better sound, key action and more keys, less gap)

Is this something that comes up often here? Are there any thoughts on whether it would be worth a more recent clavinova?

Sorry, I'll probably offend the acoustic and the digital purists but I'd really like to have something other than a half tonne photo rest in my lounge.

An alternative:

. . . Install a "PianoScan" MIDI generator under the grand piano's keybed,
. . . and use Pianoteq as the sound generator.

Believe me, this is of great interest to a lot o` people here. One built his own grand piano case for a digital. I built an art deco case for mine out of hardboard; others have done similar I`m sure. . . .it`s a great project you have and I`m sure you`ll do your new clav proud when you get her. You shouldn`t need to disembowel her if you remove the front and restructure somewhat. We must see this . . . .
