I'm heading out for a long trip and need a good pair of earbuds for music listening.

At home I have a very nice set of big headphones if I need to listen to my music, but these are not practical for travel.

Ideally they would have integrated volume control, but good quality sound is paramount. Ok, acceptable quality sound. I know I'm not going to recreate a concert hall with an iPhone and some earbuds. I just really dislike the ones that came with my iPhone! I must have some really small ear canals because they hurt.

Suggestions?

I have these, they are fine and with the right accessory they are also relatively comfortable... if you can tolerate the feeling of being isolated from the rest of the planet

and you can get the cable for the iphone with volume control and mic.

Tolerate the feeling of being isolated from the planet? Why, my dearest wish is to be able to isolate myself from the rest of the planet at times.

Be careful what you wish for. The idea of total sound "isolation" from what goes on around you can be very confining, even claustrophobic. Of course, it's a personal thing, but I have not been able to adjust to the idea of total isolation from outside sounds.

I have never been able to wear earbuds, even those that come with varied size "inserts;" they are either uncomfortable, or they don't "fit," so I loss bass response. I have opted for a good pair of "over the ear" Sennheiser compact headphones, but they don't have volume control. They fold up for storage and worked very well on several 7-hour flights.

Regards,

BruceD

Best in ear headphones that I've gotten so far.

I have Sennheiser CX300-II and love them. Even though the left earbud on both pairs I've had previously gave out after about 18 months ( a common problem according to amazon), I still like them enough to have bought another pair to replace them.

Thanks for the input, all!

I ended up buying the Shure SE315-K. They seem to lie very flat on the ear which was another plus for me. I was thinking of buying some foldable headphones like Bruce has, but I'd like to keep them in my purse all the time, so actual earbuds, if they work for me, are probably a better bet.

We'll find out!

I also got a set of memory foam covers for my ear buds. They are really comfortable, not too expensive, and make my listening experience a lot better
