Hi Rui. The one thing I've looked for and never found in the Porto area is a Kawai dealer. I've found one or two Kawai acoustics and once, an MP6. But never ever, the range of Kawai DPs. Roland and Yamaha are easier to find - there are at least two main Yamaha dealer in town and one or two independents that carry Yamaha and Roland. Casio is much harder to find, but show up from time to time. Kawai DPs - apart from that one lonely MP6 - are not to be found. I tried the authorized dealer back in 2012, but was completely ignored. V poor!

So if you could say where the Kawai guys are, I'd be happy. Thanks!

Hi toddy, in my search i came across a warehouse in braga that is the kawai official dealer, not to the public but to the stores, i found their website on the kawais website i believe, and when i tried to contact them they told me that the es100 will be in lamire store in middle june, i contacted lamire and they told me it will be available in july, but they tried to sell me the p105 via mail... i said that the keyboard on px150 and es100 is superior to the p105 and they told me its not lol, i have the impression they want to sell yamahas and i did not like their attitude...
Search for cssom in google its the warehouse in braga and ask them where can you purchase kawai DPs in you area.

Are those the guys in Rua Alegria? If so, they very much want to sell Yamaha - in fact I'm surprised they are even going to stock Kawai DPs. Interesting!

When I was looking for a DP in 2011, I went round all the shops, and the nicest keyboard I found for my taste was Roland PHAII & PHAIII. So I ended up with Roland - I love it but would really like to be able to test out Kawai DPs, just for interest. When in the UK, I tried their CA65 & CA95 and thought the action was great. However, I've no plans (or pockets smile ) to change my keyboards at the moment.

Lamire tried to sell me a CLP330 at a special (secret!) low price. But it wasn't low enough for me - so went with Roland. Yamaha GHS action 'superior'?! Funny guys.

As for the warehouse's comments: just from play testing I think the p105 action feels better than the px150, but not noticeably different from my 20 year old clavinova. None of them feel very piano like, especially where the key bottoms out.

Unless I am wrong the es100 has the same action as the kawai CL26 I tried (and kdp90). Playing next to the CN24 and the ES7 I wasn't very impressed. I thought the roland was fine as well but my wife didn't like how it sounded.

But I wasn't running a comparison between portables I was looking for a replacement for my clavinova and trying to get some idea of how the kawai kdp90 plays without having one to play. If I were to buy a digital console today I'd get a CN24 without any hesitation...for a secondary portable??? I would seriously would consider the px150...

for the price of a ca65? why not jump over to a real kawai upright?

You're right: these things are very subjective, but for me, Casio's current keyboard is better than Yamaha GHS. I agree that Kawai's keyboards are not all good: the one on the MP6 is not pleasant for me. But this is all down to taste and different experiences.

However, I don't think the ES100 uses the same keyboard as the ES7 (Advanced Hammer Action IV-F vs RHII). And we were talking about a music shop when referring to the salesmen anxious to move Yamaha DPs - the warehouse is a different matter and in a different city smile

Correct, I believe the es100, cl26 and kdp90 all share the 4F (among many other models) and the es7, cn24 and cn34 share the rhII. Sadly for me looking around I see the kawai VPC1 provides the rm3 action which looks to be really good at a very good price. Hook it up to my 500W bass amp and entertain the whole neighborhood!

Thing is, for the price it's still an upright, even though a (presumably) good acoustic upright. The GF action is comparable to an acoustic grand piano, however. So for the price compared with it's acoustic counterpart, it's a good deal.

Absolutely, and last time I was in a shop, for the price of a good upright I could get a CA95 and have some money left.

I really like the PX-150/PX-350 action, but when you also take into account how the action relates to the sound, I prefer the Kawai ES100... overall, to me, it plays more like an acoustic piano. Now, if I were buying something to trigger a software piano, that might be a different story.

Yes Rua da Alegria, i will go there just to try a few pianos but i think ill buy elsewhere just because of their atitude of trying to make me buy yamaha... because everywhere i read about, everyone says that ghs action is not on par with casio Scaled Hammer-Action or kawai AHAIV-F Graded-hammer action (same of ES6), the identical yamaha action is the GH not GHS, and for that we need many more ...

First it is a matter of action feeling preference, so _you_ have to try by yourself. There are really different, one is more "responsive" (especially push back velocity), the bottoming is very different too, one is more "soft" than the other, and the "sound" attack position is not the same (ie the moment when you hear the sound when you press the key), one is higher/sooner than other. I am not 100% sure because I tried 2-3 years ago (not sure if it was a F110 or F120 -I think the later-, and casio was the PX-330, I don't think it has chnaged a lot), but I think you can't like the 2 at the same time, you _will_ have a preference. For me one action was really a showstopper, i didn't feel connected with instrument, something was wrong with the action. But some (50% ?) have exactly opposite preference... So I will not say which is which, to not influence you. wink

Second, listen to sound, especially end of notes, and sustained notes, SuperNatural sound of Roland manage that differently, so perhaps you will be sensible to that.

Third, check the specs, but for me PX-350 is more versatile, as it can be portable, and probably as more connectivity and sounds (so can play in a pop or jazz band for example).

Just to point out, the action has changed between a PX-330, and a PX-350 - and rather more than incrementally or by a few points.

F120 has better sound and better speakers. Not better action. However opinions vary on how good is Ivory feel G. Some (like me) find it quite good and realistic, other don't like it at all.
So if portability is not important for you, it has very good value for money. In my opinion however HD380 are decent but not great headphones... I, for instance, prefer the cheaper Shure SRH240A to them...

Hm, appreciate the feedback guys. I'll think about it. Probably will just wait for another sale or just go for the PX-350 instead, as it includes way more tones and rythms aswell. It also has ivory-like keys which might not be so behind compared to the F-120.

I think you'd be happy with the PX-350. It's a good DP for the money.

Here's my recipe for piano nirvana close to your price range:

Casio PX-150: $500
Used Dual Core Laptop: $250
Used KRK Rokit 5 3G Monitors: $225 ($300 new)
Speaker stands: $75
Pianoteq 5 Stage: $110 on Ebay. This is amazing piano modeling software

This will blow away anything else you have mentioned. Then whenever you get more money, you can spend $100 on a decent USB DAC that will improve on your laptop's sound.

The Casio has IMO the best key feel + tri-sensor system for anything under $1000. I have the PX-350, and the speakers aren't that good. With the Rokits, you really feel the impact of the bass notes. I got mine on a Xmas sale for $200 for a pair. I moved up to the Rokit 6's. However, the 5's have really, really great bass response for the price and size.

After I listen to the Casio with Pianoteq, the Casio sounds worse than a toy. Casio, fantastic feel (amazing for the price), mediocre piano sounds.

Good luck!

Roland FP-90; Pianoteq 6 + many add-ons; 2 Yamaha HS8s; ATH-M50X and Samson SR850 headphones; Xenyx Q802USB interface. 2; I make a living playing a Yamaha PSR-S970 with FBT Maxx 2a's, Crowne Headset Mic. I also play guitar.

so you're just saying that if we add a good sound system (or headphones) , casio pianos are actually pretty good, is that it?

I've put an ElectroVoice ZXA1-90 with my Casio PX-150 and am extremely happy with the sound. So happy, in fact, my drive to figure out software piano has moved to back burner status.
