Hi,

Nice to see you've picked a hotel. Great choice!

I've booked an hotel close to the Hotel Lisboa Plaza and share the same metrostation. It's a little cheaper and the furniture is a bit newer, but also at walking distance from Lisboa Plaza. I'm waiting for an opinion from Carlos before confirming the reservation. It's hotel Lisboa from NH Hotelles.

Thanks Cheryl!

I hope in a few days we are able to book the hotel (first, we have to decide which one).

Hopefully in a few days I'll be sorting the passport + medical card smile

I figured it may have been related to family, but wasn't too sure... seems a few people will be turning up.

UKIkarus: Do you need a passport to travel to Europe? Cause I've been going back and forth around Europe with just my ID Card?!?!?

Anyhow, as Cheryl knows, I don't have an update yet, since my family is a bit of a mess at the moment (concerning our whereabouts... nothing too serious. Don't worry).

To and from and UK apparently so...

Quote

Frequent passport checks used to be a pain when travelling around continental Europe.

However, 25 countries in Europe (including Switzerland and EEA members Norway and Iceland) have signed up to a scheme known as the Schengen Agreement, which allows travellers to move from state to state without the need for passport checks.

The UK is not a full member of the agreement, so UK travellers will have to show their passports when entering the Schengen region, but once inside, you’re generally free to move from one country to another without passport control or customs checks.

For those of you who are interested in picking up a little bit of Portuguese before the party, check out the APP: duolingo

You can use it on your smart phone or your computer and it is a pretty good little program!

I love reading the updates of your plans!
Nikolas, are you joying us? Have you decided yet?

Some news: I think I found a nice place to do our EPP2014. I'm going to meet again with the manager to discuss some details and the price. I went there to try the piano and to dinner. I liked both!
Once decided I'll tell where is it smile

Meanwhile, I was collecting information about Lisbon:

http://www.golisbon.com/
http://www.visitlisboa.com/

Lisbon weather statistics:
:: http://www.worldweatheronline.com/Lisbon-weather/Lisboa/PT.aspx#5sdVyRTpV5ur5x4H.99

information about ID cards and passports when traveling inside Europe:
:: http://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/travel/entry-exit/eu-citizen/index_en.htm

European Health Insurance Card:
:: http://ec.europa.eu/social/main.jsp?catId=559

10 Reasons Why You Should Go to Lisbon:
CULTURE: It's one of the world's great historical cities, with characteristic and surprising sights, cultural treasures, and a beautiful setting that make it a paradise for walkers and photographers.
VALUE: It's one of Europe's best values -- officially Western Europe's least expensive capital.
LOCATION: It's the closest European capital to the United States and just around a 2-hour flight from all the other major European cities.
CLIMATE: Its mild climate makes it an ideal year-round destination. Even in winter, when most other European cities are freezing, in Lisbon high temperatures rarely go below 10C (50F).
RESORT: It is the only European capital located so close to sandy beaches, enabling visitors to combine culture with fun by the sea.
SIZE: It's a compact and intimate city, ideal for a short city break or a longer romantic stay, with a lively café culture and a nightlife that is one of the most vibrant in Europe.
VARIETY: Its surroundings offer an incredible variety of tourist attractions, from fairytale palaces in one of Europe's most romantic towns (Sintra), to world-class golf and fun in Europe's largest casino in Estoril, to surfing in Cascais or escaping to a natural park in Arrábida, to dolphin-watching in Setúbal.
GATEWAY: It makes a perfect base to explore many of Portugal's most outstanding towns and villages, from Evora to Obidos.
SAFETY: It's one of the safest European capitals. Tourists are always automatic targets in all big cities and visitors should beware of pickpocketing in Lisbon, but serious random violent crime is practically unheard of in this city.
WELCOMING: It's a friendly city with a cosmopolitan population, welcoming to all visitors and families with children, and open to minorities and alternative lifestyles.

Carlos! Thanks for all those links - and that's great news that you think you've found the location for our event! woohoo!

It is wonderful to have so much organized so early in the year.

The app I downloaded for Learning Portuguese is really very entertaining --- and useful. I feel I'm well on the way to feeling I'll be able to function, at least at "survival tourist level" by the time July rolls around!

Can I have an extra month more or less to decide? Or a bit less actually. I'm just going through some weird family times, plus there's this kickstarter thing running which takes away all my energy...

Nikolas, of course, you can. I think that by the end of April/mid May you can still decide. After that date is more complicated, because there are reservations and appointments to make and I need to know the exact number of guests.
Don't forget that you'll get better prices in airplane tickets and hotels if you decide ASAP.

Nice to know that you guys will all learn Portuguese. smile

Adeus,
CarlosCC
