I doubt it. The Garritan Authorized Steinway with the ARIA Engine did not use the iLok. My concern is more about shipping a finished product. GAS never received its promised upgrades after years of promises, even though those upgrades were said to have been finished, before it was abandoned and discontinued. Check out the Garritan Forum at NorthernSounds.com for that sad tale.

Maybe they are smart enough to not repeat the mistakes of the past.

I'm sure it hurt the company's reputation.

They are certainly asking for a hefty price.. Let's hope it isn't half baked.

Does this company offer free trials?

Would be cool if they did but considering the size of the library i doubt.

I've e-mailed Garritan asking about the release date of CFX and they answered that there's no information about the release date. So I decided to take a look at Production Grand, a Yamaha C7 sampled with 8 mics.

http://www.productionvoices.com/products/piano-samples/production-grand-gold/

I just bought it last week and I am testing it. The sound is really fantastic, as you can mix all the mics together to achieve the sound you want.

I've just received an email to say the CFX is now available....at all but $300 it's hardly a snip!

I've emailed a query asking if the product, failing to meet expectations, can be sold on with their blessing. Actually, I thought the demos sounded pretty good. Is anyone thinking of splashing out on this?

If you're concerned about what is a pretty hefty price tag, waiting a while for some reviews might be the best way to go.

One of the beta testers has stated that He does in fact think it's the best sampled piano ever produced and that he can't imagine a sampled piano being any better. But that's his ear and your ear might hear things differently. That's the way it seems to be.

I'd also mention that the Garritan products have always been very reasonably priced so they must feel that they are offering a very special piano library.

I agree, I think the demos sound impressive! Probably the best sampled demos I have heard. BUT, who knows what processing was done, etc. The real test is how it would sound in my studio. Unfortunately I am not looking to spend $300 right now.

It really is pricey! Unless Garittan or their agents - I'm not absolutely clear who's selling this - are happy to allow the library to be sold on I'll most likely wait anyway, perhaps in the hope of a discounted deal. I take your point about the usual reasonable pitch of their prices and what a $300 tag might imply. I have to say, I'm not generally impressed though by either reviewers or beta testers. I always feel that to some extent they're in thrall to the client or the developer. It's certainly possible to run off a praiseworthy and even fairly factual review without really getting to the nub of what we need to know.

That said, I do think this sounds good in the demos. At least they've had the sense to include a few demos that are less brash than the usual trillion notes per second nonsense that a lot of these developers feel they need to dish up.

I'm hoping one of the others here will weaken first...lol!

Oh dear. Why would shipping what I imagine is just a disc in a box to here cost $50? How big is this that it can't be downloaded?

There's a nice pdf there about the recording process, Abbey Road Studios and the CFX concert grand.

According to timespace.com in the UK,

"This product ships on a USB flash drive in a special edition box complete with a full-colour booklet about the piano and the recording processes and equipment used."

Usually Time+Space indicate whether or not a product can be purchased as a download, or has the option to be delivered via. download, but in this case there appears to be no indication of that so possibly it ships only on a USB drive, however I'm sure I read somewhere it would be available as a download at $50 less than the $299 usb ?

It's BIIIIG, although if the Ravenscroft is any guide (around 8Gb download for a decompressed file of 32Gb) then the full monty 122Gb might squash down to 30Gb? On a medium bandwidth connection that could be done overnight.

From one of the other threads..."Internet connection for updates and online registration USB port required for boxed version installation"... which almost hints at a download option.
