BMW Welt is one of the most arrogant, uncomfortable place I've ever been to.

My son once asked why a $ 80,000 car didn't seem to have cup holders and was almost hauled away in handcuffs.

Luckily he found them in last moment smartly hidden on dashboard.

Would go to Steinway Haus instead: nice people.

Good place to try some pianos and perhaps ask some of the questions that seem to be be circulating here again and again..

I realise that I may be accused of cultural bias, however in my view the best thing to do should you find yourself in Munich is to hit the road and travel due West for 400km or so.

In like vein, I asked a Dresdener, who happened to be in Glasgow yesterday, what he would recommend in Munich. He proposed visiting the museums and an evening at the opera. Other than that Dresden was better.

I'm not a Munich fan myself but would like to know what that could possibly be.

In addition to most of the above (not all, for sure), when in Munich, I go for the Schweinshaxen with all the usual fixings like potatoes and sauerkraut. Very good, see:

No idea about Munich. But when you go to Stuttgart, you could visit the Oscar-Walker-Schule in Ludwigsburg. That´s the vocational school for Klavierbauer. End of May you will find there the master class for piano makers.

Perhaps Del will be teaching a master class! ;-)

I went to school for a year in Ludwigsburg, but not this one--I went to the American school in the Pattonville neighborhood.

For me the best food is Wienerschnitzle or Jägerschnitzle! Or a Weißwurst from a street vendor. Or a Currywurst... Mmmm... I think I'm overdue for a trip to Germany.

We had a great time in Munich on the PW Piano Tour a couple of years ago.

When in Munich, drink the beer and eat sausages in the open market near where you will also see the Glockenspiel. Moments to remember!

If I recall, it was NOONTIME when they played.

Thanks to everyone for the great suggestions. I think there are enough to keep us busy for several months. Hopefully we'll have an opportunity to return sometime and spend a little more time there.

But, all play and no work makes Del a dull boy. So, back to pianos and/or piano related activities -- from Munich we'll be going to the Stuttgart area then to Braunschweig for a couple of days. After that we'll be going to Meuselwitz (near Leipzig) and then to Dresden and Beyreuth. Back to Munich and home.

Except for the two days in Munich the rest of the trip is pretty tightly planned around "work" with a little time for sightseeing tossed in as time permits.

Which leads to believe a Renner visit in Stuttgart would only make sense. [unless intending to go see Pfeiffer...]
