Hello dear PW members. It's good to be back after a while.
I would be more than happy to hear your feedback for my recent Cadenza that I've written for Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody no.2 and which I've performed on my recent recital on 15th of April. Here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bUJnTZVEvYQ the Cadenza begins at 09:16. It's a live performance and some mishaps are naturally there, but all in all I think most of the notes are there. laugh
I wish you all the best, looking forward to your comments.

Could you post the score for the cadenza?

Regards,

Are those glissandos actually in some edition?

I listened to your wonderful performance of the Liszt Hungarian Rhapsody No. 15. Is that your own transcription?

Hi, pianoloverus.

Yes, that's my transcription as well. Unlike the Rhapsody no.2 where I did only a cadenza plus some minor changes, I did an entire transcription for no.15. smile Thanks for listening.

Dear Polyphonist,

I'm afraid I don't have scores for my transcriptions. They are all composed for special occasions, usually without time allowing me to write it down. If I do write it eventually (which I should) I'm going to send it to you certainly.

Hi, ecm -- Well, your cadenza drew an "LOL" from me -- in the best of senses, though: although the harmonization is obviously modern and not Lisztian, the other stylistic elements are close to what Liszt would have done. And because the Rhapsodies are intended as virtuoso fun anyway, IMO you can get away with this type of musical humor without being cornball or kitschy. I have heard other cadenzas in which contemporary rhythms and harmonies were at best jarring and downright irritating, but this one worked for me. Thanks for sharing this!

Great job!! I personally wouldn't use glissandos for that penultimate display of virtuosity, but that's me. Your cadenza displays a great breadth of harmonic knowledge, as well as a solid sense of how to write for piano. I also suggest that you start the alternating octaves at the end a little lighter, as they are marked piano (or pianissimo?), if my memory serves me right.

Bravo!

Donald

Thank you for listening attentively! I'm glad you feel the cadenza fits well in the Rhapsody. I did try intentionally not to over-do all the contemporary tricks both harmonically or rhythmically - to stay in style. I'm glad you recognized this. I wish you all the best.

Wow! That's pretty impressive! Thank you for thinking outside of the box!:) I love that in a pianist. Probably the most unique interpretation of the Hungarian 2 so far. smile
Are you a prodigy? :p

Hello, Fiona!
Thanks for listening, I'm glad you liked the performance and the approach. There are a lot of great performances out there, so I figured it's better to be honest and do it the way I feel it than to fit into a standard. smile
