Hello, Nicolas de Conde from England here I am new to the forum but not to piano tuning!

Has anyone heard any out of tune pianos on t.v. or movies I have seen one on a show about a $40,000 per night hotel room...I am not normally a critical person but I had to put my fingers in my ears!

...another at a well known uk fame school (where I would have thought they would be used everyday) they were so bad I rang them up...they said they get them done once a year! whome

I saw a movie once where this couple is walking in the woods and finds an old dilapidated cottage and inside is a piano. The woman sits down to play and, lo and behold, the piano is perfectly in tune. Just amazing. Some of my customers have that brand of piano.

However, when I checked the alternate takes, there was the same scene, except this time the piano was more realistically out of tune. Some one decided the out of tune piano didn't sound right.

I have seen several tv commercials recently which have background music played on obviously out of tune pianos. I don't know what demographic they are trying to reach but these ads drive me crazy whenever i see(hear) them.

Or music from a distance but the sound is exactly synchronised with the playing of the instrument. Works for other dubbed sound too. Clearly sound travels more quickly in Hollywood than in the rest of the world.

Speed of sound is subject to the CA discount, hence, you can get speedier sound speed for your viewing buck in Hollywood.

Oh, and sound is free-range and organic.

It's much easier to bash a Steinway than it is to play one.

As a tuner, I stopped listening to the tuning as to enjoy the music.

When listening enough there is always something wrong (very rarely the tuning is so called "perfect")

But yes the lack of musical ear from producers is somùetime surprising.

It does not happen i,n France in my experience. Studio pianos are always tuned whenever music is due for a commercial, a movoie, etc. NOw private composers may be using their own studio with less than ideal piano sometime.

Lack of musical ear from pianists and composers is sometime astonishing !

(and being mean fopr not paying a tuner as long as it is "good enough" !)
