Just chanced upon this video recently which I think is a worthy share. Other humorous and musical shares are welcome.

I saw these girls before. I really like them! It would be a nice show to go to with my daughters if they come in my country.

I like this flashmob a lot. Best penny ever spent smile

Let's not forget that classical musicians who knew how to entertain their audiences are nothing new, and far more widespread in previous centuries than in today's reverential times, when, it seems, only during encores are performers allowed to let their hair down (assuming they have hair to let down grin).

For instance, Franz Clements, who gave the premiere of Beethoven's Violin Concerto, not only had to sight-read the solo part (due to the composer's tardiness in finishing it), but also, for good measure, played one of his own pieces in between the movements - on one string, with his violin held upside-down.

Nothing comes close today to that in today's performances of that serious work - not even Schnittke's OTT cadenza.....

"I don't play accurately - anyone can play accurately - but I play with wonderful expression. As far as the piano is concerned, sentiment is my forte. I keep science for Life."

Here is a classic.

And another.

And a future classic.

Marc-Andre Hamelin has a great sense of humour:

[video:youtube]9XLbOw6WLS0[/video]

I saw him play this at a recent concert in London as an encore. I was literally in tears.

Wagner in the style of a tango:

Also this.

It's funny the way that one kid moves in and shoves the little kid aside.

What is that progression at 1:39? Is that from something? Strauss perhaps? I swear I've heard it in the dinner scene of Titanic or something.

What about Dudley Moore's Beethoven Sonata parody (to the theme from "The Bridge Over The River Kwai")?

There's also Dudley Moore's parody of "The Erlking," called "Die Flabbergast":

For me, the joke was over in about one half-second, and the sophomoric pun became annoying just as quickly. Hamelin trying really really hard to be musically "cute" just grates on my nerves, for some reason.

It's nothing in particular, just an amusing Viennese waltz cliche.

When I saw him play this he had just finished playing Ravel's "Gaspard de la Nuit", which obviously has that creepy seconds-thing going on in the middle of Scarbo. So the joke was already quite well set-up. laugh

Oh, and that progression comes from J. Strauss's "Blue Danube Waltz", whoever up there wanted to know. wink

If it's a cliche, then it must originally be from something.

Blue Danube?

Edited to add: Oops. That'll teach me not to read the rest of a thread before replying. Oh well, sorry for the clutter!
