Hi PW,

Apple* has been on my mind today. I am not sure why but I don't need to - what a friend she was to me and to so many.

For newer members, apple* was perhaps the most balanced poster here at PW for many years. She touched many of us here and, although I never actually met her in person, I considered her a good friend. She passed away about 16 months ago and she was way too young to go.

Here she is with Indrek Laul in Chicago a few years ago:

Apple*, know that you continue to be missed and you are thought about often... at least here in Philadelphia.

With love,

That is a beautiful photo of her hugging Dr Laul. It is poignant to reflect on her life that was taken away, but that photo celebrates so much of her life; her great love of music and the piano.

Thank you Richard for your timely remembrance and reflection.

Very sincerely,

Robert.

Yes, Apple was a very sweet lady indeed, and a very good pianist! smile

I exchanged several PMs with Apple about her battle with brain cancer. My wife also suffers from a brain tumor and is severely disabled.

We encouraged each other to find peace in the midst of the pain and suffering, and the piano helped in that regard. Fortunately, Apple is not suffering any longer!

However, we miss her very much.

A friend who is a far better person than I am likes to quote from scripture the injunction, "A soft answer turneth away wrath." Apple (like my friend) seemed to live by that motto here, and we were all better off because of her calming spirit.

I feel so fortunate that my life has been touched by such people.

Shucks, a lot of us knew her back when she was just plain apple, before she got her star.

She was a nice lady, with wonderful passions, but still a gentle soul. I hope one of her children plays the piano...I could think of nothing which personified her more than her Estonia.

I came across some of Apple's posts about the Baldwin M when I was hunting for a piano. It seems she had one before her Estonia, and she regarded it highly. At some point in my search I realized she was gone, and after searching older topics with her name I learned the sad reason why. It was a bit surreal to realize that she had a positive impact on me even after she was gone, and I could also tell that she was highly regarded by so many people here! In another ironic twist, that was before I got my own cancer diagnosis. One of my wife's colleagues survived brain cancer, and she's been an inspiration to me. Fortunately, I'm on the mend too. Well, as the old adage says: only the good die young. Rest in peace, Apple. God bless you and your loved ones.

She was, in person, the same as she posted. And always smiling.

I miss her terribly and feel so lucky to have called her 'friend'.

I still remember her always kind comments and answers to all questions.

An example to follow. I wish (and will work to it) when I am no longer here, people will remember me as we remember apple*.

Nice lady.

BTW, why don't you guys who know it, share the story behing the star?

I am happy to, Rudy.

If I get this wrong, someone please step in and correct me.

Apple had tried one day to sign in and could not. She couldn't figure out why. Eventually she had to come up with another screen name to sign in with and came up with apple*.

She explained in an impromptu poem that it is a kiss. I wish I could find the post.

Thanks for asking Rudy.

About her Estonia, which she named "Stone" - I am proud to say that apple* had such trust in Estonia and in me that she never played her piano before ordering it from me. She simply went on blind faith... and was never sorry for a moment.

She was a truly good person and I miss her very much. I am often reminded of her when I see one of the scores she gave to me on the piano. Reading this thread has brought tears to my eyes.

Even now apple* holds the number 2 spot on the user list for greatest number of posts. While she participated heavily in all the forums, I'm particularly grateful for the advice and encouragement she gave the people on the Adult Beginners Forum.

A forum is only as good as its members. Apple* played a tremendous role in making PW the great place that it is. I miss her.

Well said, Monica. Thank you.

I am just wondering.... do you know who holds the #1 spot in number of posts? wink

If you click on "User List," it will display all the registered users on PW, in order of number of posts. You're number 17 on that list, Rich. Better step it up. wink

Well, I'm #22 on that list... guess I'd better get busy too. smile

As far as our late dear friend Apple*, I wish we could have some sort of memorial for her here on Piano World. I know there have been other members who were well thought of and are no longer with us, but Apple* was special in her own way.

We can memorialize her in our hearts anyway… smile
