Damzified - Whew two hands! I’m still struggling to do much with my left hand.
Pianonewbie – ‘Baccarole’. Like many classical pieces in the bar I never knew it’s name but have heard it before. A pretty tune.
Larry Shore - To me there is nothng odd about going from a minor to major. Keep trying things out. It’s a good way to learn.
N17 – Seems to be progressing well
Jazzwee - Great song. Good band.
Shannon – Keep it up
LadyPayne - Always loved this tune. Nicely played.
KenJazz – Very smooth, almost sounds like a live band
InLanding – I see you have lost none of your skill and charm. (I’d still like to hear you tackle a few Randy Newman pieces.)
Sinophilia – Good work. Wish I could play in that style.
Amaruk – Lovely to hear your Yann Tiersen renditions again. (I think you might have done this one before?). You have captured his style to the degree that I couldn’t pick your parts from his. Very well done.

Hope I haven’t missed anyone.

“Valse in “ A “ minor” Composer Chopin ,
The video may be” audacious, but I liked it.
As far as Chopin, I don’t know…….. I haven’t acquired a taste for his style yet,. it must take some time,,, like the video, a lot of it…… and I’m 51 !!!!
I’m practicing this with another, i.e. so this lesson is a draft.
I’ll not repost it , because of it being a “draft”.
Below the vid is a pic of the score for anyone to print .
Valse

SunnyFriday - It's definitely a good technical challenge, but it's a lot of fun; glad you enjoyed it!
Newman - Do you mean to say you're working on that same piece? The left hand's rhythm is tricky, gotta work on it separately and learn to feel it and have it become second nature.
peterws - Appreciate it! I've sometimes been told that my body doesn't "wobble" enough around the piano, but I guess if the music itself wobbles, then I don't have to worry? wink

Newman - Great to see you back at the bar! And you...you've not lost your charm and skill in composing such wonderful melodies and lyrics. After So Long is a wonderful tribute to your wife and marriage of thirty years! The first draft mix sounds pretty good to me. Not sure what you could do to make improvements to it. She'll love it, man!

Damz~ First, welcome to the piano bar! Your rendition of The Crave is very nice. That piece of music has so many mood changes and you do a great job of bringing them out. Lots of tricks and technical skill required to keep a solid tempo, and you do that so very well, too. Look forward to hearing more from you, indeed!

Newman - Welcome back! She is going to melt on this one - that is for sure. Two of the upgrades in the new BIAB (that I don't have ) that I 'm interested in are a real R&B horn section and a real string quartet. I'm imagining how your rock waltz would sound with real strings rather than the midi. It would probably be indistinguishable from pro at that point.

Lean to Tail - Beautiful job. Recitals are a real stress factory. They seem designed for torture, but you played your piece wonderfully.

Damz - Wow. Great degrees of technical difficulty, and what seemed to me to be period authenticity. I loved the octave soloing and trills!

Larry Shone - It feels good to get back into it with the Gm vamp doesn't it? Keep it going!

LadyPayne: That was such a wonderful arrangement and playing.. enjoyed it very much.

This is dedicated to my lovely Mom - my arrangement of one of her favorite songs/group:

The Platters: Smoke Gets in Your Eyes

I really enjoyed your playing and the sound was not bad at all for digital!

On the subject of digital pianos, I finally got into one of the practice rooms at the college where I work. How do I put it, well, I decided I'm really glad to have my digital. Really the condition of some acoustic pianos is just shameful.

Let me add my digital piano recording to the mix. I have been really busy lately but whenever I get a bit of free time or just need to retreat from the chaos I work on this little gem:
https://app.box.com/s/azhmnt0r1mbf5qrbfgp1

I don't know why I decided to learn this, I found an old Brahms CD and have been listening to it in the car as I drop my daughter at school and then go to work. Some of it is just so good it puts my mind in the right place. So eventually I just had to start playing something but I wanted to learn a piece that fits with something else I've learned. As is often the case with Brahms, the music was a bit unusual but intoxicating to play.

I still don't have a big repertoire... but I am quite happy to start seeing some improvement.

Some of you, who participated in the last ABT Recital listened to my take of Pelagia's Song. Thanks for your kind words, they really helped me to see that it wasn't as terrible as I thought it was. I have tried the same piece a few weeks later and I think that it sounds better... so this also helps keeping me in front of the 88!

I just wanted to share these 2 videos with you. I'm currently working in a couple more pieces -one is a classical piece! and I think I'll continue revisiting old works to check my improvement... hopefully it will be obvious!

Thanks again.

ABF Recital entry, one week work

Same piece, 5 weeks later

Pathbreaker~ thanks for sharing your take on Brahms 118-1 - it's amazing. How long have you been playing this one? I think 118-2 gets a bit more press, so I am glad you shared the Intermezzo you did. My Dad used to play all his Intermezzos, so yours brings out some wonderful memories.

evamar~ yes, your second take is much more cogent. I enjoyed this submission in the e-cital and it's great to hear how you've smoothed things out - great work!

Elssa! great to see you again - Love the Platters! The lyrics are are great and you play the melody so very well. I'd love to hear you accompany yourself sing as this tune seems so natural under your fingers.

Thanks for your comments, Inlanding! I'm glad I was able to tap into some good memories. smile

I started this one about a week after the Chopin recital so it must be 3 or 4 weeks I've been working on it. There are obvious errors in there and I've pretty much given up on making recordings with no errors.

I agree about the 118-2 and I'm actually re-learning that one alongside the a minor. What's interesting is that I thought this 118-1 is more difficult but I think it will take me twice as long to get a recording of the 118-2 even though I've played it before. I'm realizing that it's actually quite difficult to play on many levels.

I really like connected pieces and I'm just really fascinated by the ending A major chord leading into the A major Intermezzo.

There are a few other sets where Brahms does (Op. 76 nos. 7,8) this and I was looking to play a pair with that kind of connection. After I finish 118-2 I will polish 118-1 again and try to record them together.

Elssa The Platters were good. You make me very aware of my age. Wife says "About time too" . . the second one, Twilight; I`ve played that somewhere, but can`t remember where . . . You`ll like this;

Elssa – Such great tunes
Pathbreaker – A very rich sound
Evamar – Sounds good to me
PeterWS – Very atmospheric. I looked it up on Wikipedia. Very modern for its day.

And thanks, all, for the feedback.

Satie's Gymno 1 - a fine example, Peter - it's great you shared it here! I like the speed you chose for it, and you play as though you are really listening to the music. Great work!
