If the MP11's are in a backlog and may have a long delivery time , isn't it easier and faster to have the LCD-unit replaced instead ? That is if the rest of the unit is fully functional and the broken LCD panel (or backlight of the LCD) is the only malfunction. Of course I don't know if Kawai could ship such a part very fast and if the dealer is qualified to replace it....(won't be rocket science I suspect).

It's possible that the cable socketed to the display is not fully seated.

Normally yes, but since it was DOA I actually want a new unit. I mean the whole unit itself could have gotten a massive jolt or something, potentially causing other damage I can't see (yet).

The piano is so good that I don't mind waiting for a new one.

If you really used polarized glasses, then the problem is not a missing polarized plastic sheet. Just a contrast control failure.

I'm taking it back this weekend so Kawai can take a look at it. I will however get a new one as soon as they arrive, no problems there smile

Unfortunately it will take about a month to get a new one, but now that I've gotten a taste of it I won't have any issues applying the required dose of patience smile

By the way, the sunglasses trick works the other way: if the light from the display were polarized (basically the electromagnetic fields are vibrating in one direction, not two), then wearing polarized sunglasses oriented in a direction perpendicular to the polarization of the light from the LCD screen would result in near blackness. Sorry, I has to get that off my chest ….

Right, assuming the polarized filter is not missing from within the lcd display.
