I'm looking for a keyboard I can use to take on business trips to practice my choral music and my chord course homework in my hotel room.

This would be perfect but reports are that it only functions on the first of April every year.

I could swear I saw something once that had several octaves (more than 2 octaves at least), that folded up in three parts into a sort of box-like arrangement.

I don't want a roll-up keyboard.

It's fine for it to be a software controller and I need to hook it up to my computer to run. It's also fine if it's a self-contained keyboard, although I don't particularly want that extra weight of speakers etc.

If I can't find a foldup keyboard, I'm considering the Akai LPK25. What I don't like about that is because I'll be using it for choral music, and I'm an alto, the 2-octave C-to-C range isn't quite right (E-E or F-F would be better), and I don't want to be fussing with octave shifts when I reach an end of the keyboard in my voice part.

I'd like a span that covers at least the typical 4-voice choral span... perhaps C2 to C6 or so (or really B1 to B5, to get that occasional Rachmaninoff low note for the basses).

Does this "solid keyboard that folds up into a box shape" ring any bells? Any other ideas or thoughts?

If I get the Akai: Is it actually easy enough to switch octaves on the Akai that I wouldn't mind doing it? What will I need to get for my computer? I'll be travelling with a Windows 7 laptop and an Ipad. (Also a Kindle Fire and an iPhone, but I don't think I want those to be where I hook the keyboard up to!)

A couple of possibilities...

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/miselu/c24-the-music-keyboard-for-ipad

It's a compact two octave keyboard, but you can link two, three, or four of them together. Designed to be used with iPad. Not available yet.

http://foldingorgan.com

Designed for organ, but folds into an airline-friendly 25 pound box, two 61-key manuals.

Thanks, anotherscott.

The ipad keyboard looks interesting when it becomes available -- especially if you can hook several together.

The folding organ could be the kind of thing I'm looking for, (although ideally lighter), but, alas, not to the tune of $1200.

Another thought I suppose is -- does Disneyland have any place a person can go to use a piano or keyboard daily for a little while? I'm going to a conference at the Anaheim Convention Center.

For lack of other options, I've ordered an Akai LPK25. Now for the fun of figuring out what to hook it up to for software in my computer.

I'll report back after my trip for how it worked for the specific uses I want it for.
