I got two keyboards, one is Yamaha psr 280, another one is Yamaha psr 950, want to use the voice of psr 950 when I'm playing at psr 280. Hope someone can solve my problem.
Thanks!

Do both pianos have a MIDI interface? Do you have a computer with a MIDI interface?

If so, you can run a MIDI cable from one piano's MIDI output to the MIDI interface's input, and another cable from second piano's MIDI input to the computer MIDI interface's output.

Then you can run software on the computer that will read the input from piano 1 and send it out to piano 2. With that you can play the keyboard of piano 1 and get the sound from piano 2.

Or if you don't want to use a computer:

1. Connect a midi cable to the MIDI OUT of your 280 to the MIDI IN of the 950.

2. Both keyboards should trigger when you play the 280.

I tried to get a CLP 820 linked to a PSR 630. It wouldn`t have it, so I asked at the shop. He said it wouldn`t make economic sense for Yamaha to permit this . . .it`d obviate the need for the more expensive CVP models (ensembles)

It did work with a Roland keyboard however.

You're right. You don't need a computer. (I was thinking in USB terms. In that case a computer would be needed.)

'trigger' means 'cause' or 'effect' by playing.

You press a key on your 280 and your other keyboard, the 950, makes a sound. That is, the 280 'triggers' the 950 keyboard.

If you have MIDI sockets on both keyboards, this should work fine (because this is the whole point of MIDI). If you don't have MIDI sockets on both keyboards, then, of course, you cannot do this.

If you want to play the PSR 950 sound from your PSR 280:
1. Connect the MIDI cable from the OUT port of the 280 to the IN port of the 950.
2. If you are using internal speakers, turn up the volume on the 950 (and turn down the volume on the 280, or turn off LOCAL CONTROL on the 280).
3. Set the SEND MIDI channel on the 280 to the same number as the RECEIVE MIDI channel on the 950 (see your manuals for details).
4. Make sure you have the 950 set to receive MIDI information and is NOT set to MIDI OFF.
5. Select the PART on the 950 that you wish to control via MIDI (see manual).
