I've often been viewing pianoworld on a Surface RT tablet. I have noticed that the pages take a very long time to load, much longer than other websites.

I tried turning off javascript and that makes the pages load in a jiffy. Unfortunately, I can't post anything, because the Submit button doesn't work without javascript. I tried the "Prompt" option for scripts and got prompted for over 20 separate scripts for one PW pageload At least now I know why it takes so long...

Does anyone know of a way to disable scripting in general but allow the submit button? At least once upon a time, form submit buttons were simple html attributes and didn't require javascript...

Or if anyone has any other suggestions I'm game. Just keep in mind that you can't install any other web browsers or add ons on a Surface RT. It is not a normal computer.

That's a complex combination lol. You are the first person I've heard of using a Surface RT tablet. Do you like it?

The Javascript is probably mainly from the ads. You could try ad block (except you can't, oh well).

The easiest thing I can think of is to set up a kind of intercepting proxy server (squid makes it relatively easy) to modify the page to submit the URL to the destination. That's a lot of work though, and requires a proxy server. So I don't think you want to do that.

Incidentally, after looking through the source of this page, I realized Firebug now has a 3d option. I'm not sure how that's useful but it's kind of cool.

So it's not just me. I have the same problem on an old XP Wintel machine.

Maybe we should seek a competent volunteer to fix this for Frank.

I got the Surface to be a portable and lightweight way to read scores when at gigs. It's great at doing that, and also turned out to be great for watching Netflix. It's lousy at doing most everything else. However it has a very long battery life, so I often end up using it for other things anyway.

Phantomfive, thanks for the suggestion, but making a proxy server is beyond my abilities. Interestingly the ads still show up with scripting disabled. Squid is a lovely sea creature as far as I know

JohnSprung, so glad I'm not the only one with this problem!

I have the Surface Pro (1st edition). I do notice that this site is very slow on the IE browser. If I go to desktop mode and use Firefox or even IE in desktop mode it runs as normal. There is something about the way the IE browser works in "Metro" that causes the site to have a long delay before anything is clickable. Too bad it seems in RT you have no alternative browser choice.

Do you have Surface 2 or the original? I wonder how much of it is due to hardware or just the crappy browser. Mine is slower in Metro IE but it's not at all unbearable. There's a lot of touchscreen optimized stuff that must be a factor. The site is not exactly super fast in almost any circumstance so I wouldn't completely blame your device.

Wow, what software do you use to look at scores?

I have an ipad and the site also loads incredibly slowly. Not sure what to do! It takes maybe 30 or more seconds each click to fully load the page and I can't scroll or select until that process is done.

Strange--I have an ipad too and don't have a problem with slow loading. Maybe a different browser would be better? (I'm using Safari.)

If I impatiently try to scroll down before a page has fully loaded I get a message (Windows 8.1) that PW is not responding because of a long script loading. I have the option to stop the script, but usually just wait it out.

Hmm, interesting that so many have this problem...
I suppose I took the pianist's way out and quickly memorized the sequence of clicks to turn scripts on and off so now I'm just turning scripts on when I want to post, off the rest of the time.

phantomFive -- I just use the built in pdf reader and the "backend" (not metro) file manager. Plus a usb foot pedal for pageturns. And a little pocket I made from a styrofoam takeout container that allows it to sit on the music stand without the volume buttons constantly being pressed by the stand

The same was happening to me beginning about a month ago, using windows 7 and IE 11. I switched to Chrome and no longer see the delay in page loading.

My office has recently given me a Surface Pro. It seems mostly useless so far, but I am going to try using it for sheet music. I'm getting ready to buy a USB foot pedal. What kind did you get?

My wife wants a pedal for transcribing spoken-word recordings, so I want something that would be usable for that, too.

I don't know what you need for transcription. This is basically just a page up and page down key on a string. A toggle switch turns it into up arrow/down arrow. It is effective, cheap, and durable. The first one I owned cost under $50 and lasted through 3 years of being thrown in my bag and used several times a week. I'm almost a year into my second one now.
