Hi all -

I've been lurking for a bit, picking up tips on purchasing my first DP. I've always wanted to learn to play, and I finally decided that it's time. After trying out DPs from Roland, Kawai, and Yamaha at local stores, as well as researching online, I finally decided to go with the new Roland DP90e. (Primarily because I like the DP90 a lot and it seems that they have addressed some of the concerns I've read about that one in the new version. Also, the prices are comparable for the models, so why not go with the latest technology?)

The problem is, now that I have my heart set on the DP90e and have it preordered, it seems that delivery is going to be much later than anticipated. I was originally told they expected them to start shipping around the first of this month, but I called today to see if there was any update and now I'm being told the end of April! I'm registered for lessons beginning 1 April, and I won't have anything to practice on if I wait for the Roland.

I also liked the Kawai CA65, but it's a big large for my available space and it's quite a bit more expensive. So, now I'm trying to figure out what to do. To wait, or not to wait, that is the question. Also, should I consider renting for a month or two? That seems like such a waste of money.

Thoughts?

LW

Hi LW,

Not sure what country you're from, but have you contacted your local branch of Roland and inquired with them?

Let me know where you are in the world, and I'll see if I can put you in touch with your Country's branch of Roland to get a solid ETA. Sometimes things get delayed by circumstances out of everybody's control. Let's see if we can help you out.

I'm in the U.S. The store called the Roland rep today while I was on hold, and that's when they got the end of April date.

Ok. As long as your got the word directly from Roland US.

You could try giving them a call @ 323-890-3700 just to double check and confirm ETA.

Sorry you won't get your DP90e right away. If the new HP Pianos are any indication, (which they are as the DP90e shares the new SuperNatural engine and PHA4 action) you will love the new DP90e for a very long time. And it will be worth the wait. I had the previous DP-90 in the living room of my apartment for the last few years, and am looking forward to putting a DP90e in there as soon as they arrive.

I finally got in touch with Roland US and found out that the container ship was delayed, but is expected to arrive in the next week or so. As such, shipping from CA is expected to begin at the end of the month and the DP90e should start showing up at U.S. retailers approximately the first week of April. Fingers crossed...

Will do! I'm sure I am going to love it! I went this weekend and "played around" (I'm a beginner, so chopsticks is about my speed right now) with the PHA4 on the HP504 and 506, in comparison to the DP90, DP90S, and several acoustics, and was very pleased with both the Premium and Concert actions. I like the DP90 sound also, so I don't expect any issues in that regard. I'm thrilled to find so much in such a small footprint that will also look nice in my home, since it's going to have to share space in the dining room for now.

I hear you on the space concerns. I have a pretty small apartment in Vancouver, and am hopefully taking a DP90e-CB home this week to replace the DP90-SB I had before.

It's the perfect piano for my smaller living space. And my girlfriend, as a Grade 10 trained classical player, really loved the DP90, so I know she'll love the DP90e.

I temporarily had the RD800 at home. LOVED that piano a bunch, but I like having built in speakers in the apartment. The cabinet design, the fact that there are no cables, or a need for external speakers, rates more highly on the GAF (Girlfriend Acceptance Factor) Scale. Happy wife, happy life....

I have been hunting for the DP90se to buy in Minnesota.
I had played the DP90s and compared it to feeling like a real grand.

Thanks for the info!

What is the DP-90e price in the US? Is it more or less than the HP-504?

You can get the DP90e online for $2,599, and the local shops will match that. I was quoted $600 more for the HP504, but I didn't push for any less because it wasn't what I wanted.

They're both around US $2600.

EDIT: DP price is listed online at KraftMusic, AZpianos says the HP is $2600-$3000 depending in satin finishes.

I am not sure what this DP90e is? The lower end Digital Piano?

The DP90se is a 4000 dollars Digital Piano selling for about 3500 on websites in the US. That doesn't mean those websites have it though. Kraft Music shows they are selling it now I don't know if they have it in stock.

ok yea DP90e is basically like the DP90 where the DP90s is the DP90se.
Big Difference.

There both Great Digital Pianos with the PHA 4 but I need to play them like I did with the DP90s. Your Choice is fine. DP90e
DP90se are both great. Don't read so much into words on the net.
I'll check back at the end of April.

I certainly would love to get my mitts on one o` those pianos. Lovely to behold (has to be polished Whatever), all the gizmos, sophistication any neanderthal would be happy wallowing in if not actually appreciating it`s capabilities. I`m talking about the DP90S now, mind. Then I saw it`s recording incapabilities . . all those voices and no effective means of recording them onboard liek you`d expect from an ensemble instrument . . .I wonder if the music stand height causes any problems. And I looked at the price!

Better the devil you know. I settled for the latest DGX . . . haven`t regretted it. Maybe I should make an oblong box for it . . .

DP-90e is under $2000
DP-90se is under $2600
Shipping is additional

I believe the HP504 is the same or somewhere between those models depending on the finish.

These prices are below the minimum advertised price (MAP), so you won't see them online. You'd probably have to call in to negotiate to get these prices.

I ordered a DP-90SE, which is probably in that same container arriving by the end of this month.

A personal attack because I questioned the intent of your questionable post? Nice. That's all I'm going to say about that.

These are great prices and far below what I've been able to find! I've spoken to two online retailers and two local shops. Care to share any bargaining tips? You are clearly very good at it!

I'm curious if the PHA 4 concert key action warrants the price premium of the SE model over the PHA4 premium key action in the base E model? The mirror black finish on the SE looks great in the pics. Really like the look of this DP and the 2014 Roland updates to both models, I would guess these are high volume models for them.

I tried both actions on the HP series, and I could tell the difference. The Concert felt heavier, but both were enjoyable to play. I'm a true beginner though, so you would surely have a stronger preference for one over the other than I do. The biggest difference was the comparison to the DP90/DP90S. That difference was unmistakable and is the reason I decided to wait to purchase.

The polished ebony is beautiful in person! I decided against it because we have pets and I'm afraid the cat would scratch it, since I have no doubt she would jump up on it when no one is home. I'm not sure how well scratches like that could be repaired.

I read the SE had a better keybed and was available in a gloss finish.

I doubt you will get a response. I have tried several avenues on this site to obtain further info from BlackAndWhite about this, without success. I'm afraid these prices may be too good to be true, though I'd be thrilled to be wrong about that.

He listed his own DP-90se on the 'prices paid' thread as $2599+shipping, so his listing here as "under $2600" is a little bit of hyperbole. I'd like to know where he got that deal but he purposefully omitted that info in the other thread.

I'm guessing that he just applied whatever discount deal he got for his piano to the DP-90e price.

I remember that I got my Roland HP for an excellent price, because it was just those days newly introduced to the market of my country. Only two months later the price was increased significantly and stood stable that high until the new HP series became available. At the moment the new HPs appear at a nice appearing price, even lower than the old HPs have been priced just before the introduction of the new ones! Not necessary to say that the old HPs are now available at really special low prices. I have the feeling that the new ones will increase in price very soon, and then reach again the price of the old ones.
