So a few years ago I was recording myself playing Chopin's Prelude No.4 when on this faithful take, I hit the wrong opening chord, but instantly decided to just improvise whatever so as to not waste my setup and whatnot.

This is completely made up on the spot and I didn't incorporate any familiar phrases that I've made up in the past. I think it came together nicely. Let me know what you guys think.

Yes, improvisation is one of my superpowers. Unless you're telling me you heard something you recognize?

I've never listened to any of Mahlers works. What section exactly are you referring to...You've caught my interest and curiosity.

You've never heard the Adagietto from the 5th symphony? I guess just a coincidence then.

No, I haven't. If you have the time, could you show me what part of the symphony and which part of my improv are alike?

So between 0:32 and 0:41 in my recording? If so, what part of the symphony does it sound like?

I think he means what part of the 5th Symphony sounds like 0:32-0:41 in his piece.

Except the starting anacrusis your playing has absolutely nothing to do with Chopins Prelude in E minor.
You are using lot to much pedal. Harmonic contenses are not clear. In my opinion this has to be be elaborated much more.
Improvising on the beautiful tune is very comun.

Don't forget this was an improvisation I made up on the spot. I wasn't trying to do anything with the Prelude, I just flowed with wherever my fingers landed:

The second I was finished playing it, I could not repeat any of it. I couldn't exactly plan ahead with the pedaling being that I didn't know what the next notes would be. These links are interesting though.

Why didn't you know what the next notes would be?

I feel like this is going back and forth more than it should. Let me try and clarify something because I think everyone has a different idea of what I'm doing here. Usually people improvise a theme or a piece and make alterations, but these are planned, practiced and sometimes written down on paper.

What I'm doing in this recording is not that, it's the opposite. I am literally moving my hands around aimlessly and trying to tie together the resulting chords or notes wherever my finger/hands land on the keys. This is why sometimes I slow down dramatically so that I can process where I am and what "might" sound ok if I play it next. I could just as easily of done this blindfolded. There is no premeditated action here.
