Having difficulty trying to convert a RPP file to MP3 from my Reaper.
The Reaper has a link that is for a converter named: LAME
I got it open. No go. Reaper won't recognize it's there. Can't get it to convert anything?

I can store the RPP file in Music. I need a converter...
I need this by friday. Have a ABF recital to upload by midnight.

Reaper is new to me. Looked at their forum. Odd replies. Looks like it ain't easy to get to work on the converter.
I"d be happy with any converter that will work.

You need LAME for MP3 conversions to work (it's the same with Audacity. This is for legal reasons I think, otherwise they'd include the whole process inside the program, but they can't do this.

The lame used to have to be placed in a certain location in the computer, but now, I think this is done automatically when you download LAME through the link provided. It should work as soon as LAME is installed - make sure you've installed the downloaded program. Hope it works for you!

As I said: I"ve installed it. Reaper won't recognize that it exists. Even tried using it just on the file. Can't get to the file.

Then I would transfer the file over to Audacity and export it as MP3 from there.

As a matter of fact, with MP3, I do this anyway sometimes because I had one or two doubts about the quality of MP3 conversion in Reaper, even though some other compression platforms and Wave export with no problems.

I'll try that. Think I have Audacity on here. Might download it.

I did try again on Reaper. It opened a "plug in's" window. I clicked and dragged the dowload to it. Now Reaper shows the LAME. But!.... I go to find the file to convert. All of the .RPP files are still dim....unavailable to move back to the conversion window. Doh!

I'll try audacity.

Audacity is only Windows..... Doh!

???????

I have emails sent to three converters on Apple store. If they will convert a .RPP file to MP3

Any other ideas on Reaper? Why are those files still dim? unavailable to the converter?

You can get audacity for Mac here: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/mac

Try that. Good luck!

Thank you very much for the help, toddy...
I'll probably download that.
I was successful.
I figured out what Apple did with my Ivory in Garageband. Brought it up. Re-recorded it. Converted it and all. Got it up on the recital.
It's very late for me. I just couldn't give up. Had to get it done.
Might even redo it. Still got a couple days. At least the pressure is off to get it done.

One thing that I think is causing some of the confusion is that .rpp is a Reaper project file, so you're not going to find another converter directly to .mp3 for it.

What you need to do is Render the project in Reaper. If you can't render as .mp3 just render as .wav, you'll then be able to take that file into Audacity (or any other audio editing software) to convert to an .mp3

Playing since April 2010.

Now that I got out what I needed to do.
I do really like Reaper as a DAW.
Would sure like to figure out how to get those files converted in Reaper.
Yes, LAME is now showing as in the Reaper converter for MP3 conversion.
The files themselves are out of reach....dim and unclickable. ????

The whole process of converting to MP3 (or any other universally playable platform such as .wav .aiff etc etc) is done in 'Rendering' in Reaper and 'Export' in Audacity. It usually goes through very smoothly this way, so long as LAME is active on your computer.

You should not need to have to go through any complicated conversion procedures.

I appreciate the advise. Will look into it.
I gotta confess....right now I got two more evenings before the recital closes... Want to work on a better performance for now. Think mine is pretty good for a ~1yr old pianist. I know I can turn out better though. Just couldn't give up last night. Kinda like got in a fight trying to get it done....just had to finish it.

I do really like Reaper. What I've seen so far.

That rendering is working for me.
If you look at the bottom of the window to choose for rendering. There is a choice for conversion. Don't know why it isn't working as described above?

Now that I have rendering working. Can you help me with a little basic advise?
I have a good recording I'd like to add before 9pm my time tonight. Problem is it has 3 minutes of nothing before the recording itself. Don't know how I did this...doh! How do I effectively cut the 3 minutes of nothing before I render the file to mp3. Haven't quickly seen how to do it. Running out of time. Geesh...gotta get to work right now.... will be back in a few hours.

Ron, if you're stuck and you can link me to your file (PM), I can get shot of the dead bit at the start. I'll re-upload it back to you, shouldn't take more than 10 minutes round trip.

I will gladly tell you how I do it.
Create a region.
Put 2 markers. 1 at the beginning, and 1 at the end of what you want as your finished rendered song.
Double click between them, on the timeline.
The area between your 2 markers will become highlighted (region).
Now go to your render page.
It will default to rendering the whole project length.
Change that setting to region (not at my computer, but I think thats what it's called)..........the time will be right there for you to see.........eg., start: 00:03:07:564 end: 00:06:11:297
Click render.

- that makes much more sense minstrelman - not being a reaper user myself I decided to delete my 'all purpose' instructions!
