Hello!
I just tested the sound of yamaha 1.60, 1.70,1.86 and bosendorfer 130 upright.

I fell in love with the bosendorfer 130 as for the sound and yamaha 186 c3 x.
The sound of bosendorfer although it was an upright piano it was incredible. I was a bit disappointed fron yamaha 1 60 and I came to realize that the model 1 50 of yamaha is not a good choice if the 160 did n tsound so good as I expected. So, I think that if someone wants good sound must choose a grand piano 1.70 and up but then... The money is too much.

Does anyone know grand pianos 1.70 or 1.60 that sound warm , are relatively cheap - 10 ooo - 15 000 euros other than yamaha? I first tested the bosendorfer and then the yamaha and that s the point where everything now seems to be compared with the sound of bosendorfer a or the sound of 1.86 yamaha, but they cos so much....any opinion that will prevent my ear for looking pianos and sounds that I can t afford??!!!!!

Take time. Maybe six months. Look at a lot of different pianos. You will find something you like, if you take the time.

Nothing will be like a Bösendorfer, but there are quality alternatives to Yamaha that tend to be characterized as warmer in tone. Commonly mentioned in the US are Hailun, Ritmüller & Brodmann. I would suggest looking at recent Eduard Seiler & Johannes Seiler lines from Seiler. I believe Feurich is available in Europe. That would be a good list to work from.

You could also consider Kawai grand pianos which are similar in quality to Yamaha, but quite different in sound.

Kind regards,

Robert.

The main difference between a longer piano and a shorter piano, is the tone starts to sound bad in the lower notes. Some shorter grands I've played suffer this nearly to the middle of the piano. I would never buy that kind of piano, and would prefer an upright. It depends on the piano though; some manufacturers have managed to make short pianos with very good tone, all the way down.

Sometimes shorter pianos are quieter than their larger counterparts. This is neither good nor bad, it's just a difference to pay attention to. What matters is what you like.

Those are things to consider when thinking about the length of the piano.

If you've played it, tell us what you think. We'll be interested in your opinion.
