I've tried one aleve after breakfast and dinner, seems to be helping.

I have arthritis in my left hand -- the thumb area right above the wrist is always swollen. As long as there is no pain it really does not interfere with anything -- but when it flares up it swells more and gets so painful that usually I cannot even lift a glass with that hand. When I have a flare-up I take Aleve and it usually resolves within 24 hours. I cannot deal with Ibuprofen -- it turns my stomach into a knot rather quickly.

I have chronic problems from my time before piano. I have learned to manage these chronic problems. Sometimes I take Advil, sometimes Aspirin.

Rest, ice (or cold packs) are the main tools I use. I limit my practice time. If I experience pain, I take a day or a couple of days off.

I wear gloves, because keeping my hands warm makes a difference. I have lots of different gloves, different weights and materials. Two brands mentioned on the forum are Imak and Hand-Eze, and both are designed to help with arthritis.

Ask your doctor. Aspirin, if it were a new invention, probably wouldn't get approved by the FDA. It prevents clotting, which can be dangerous. Tylenol is perhaps safer than the NSAIDS in this regard, but regular use can be bad for your liver. Again, ask your doctor.

See a doctor. Advice from any non medical person can be life threatening. NSAIDS are very bad for your stomach, liver and intestines (I by accident almost caused a hole in my stomach by simply taking ibuprofen). Aspirin can be dangerous because it thins your blood. Never take anything regularly without prescription.

Ibuprofen can raise your blood pressure too......

If you have chronic pain - see a dr.

Sometimes soaking in hot water can help - as can hot wax treatments - there are also ultrasound baths and laser treatments that can help with inflamation.

But a dr should be your point of reference, not internet buddies.

I take fish oil and aspirin, and it has helped. I noticed a difference in about 3 weeks. Prior, if I held a mug of coffee, the sideways pressure hurt the knuckle of my index finger, the one closest to my palm. Now it doesn't, so that is my measurement.

My arthritis is just getting started, no swelling or doctor diagnosis. I hope to keep it at bay. Fish oil / asprin is worth a google.

Sore joints are an expressed symptom of inflammation. 'inflammation' can be caused by many things. Many times it is due to overuse or wear of a joint, but can also be caused by bacteria/disease, improper nutrition, etc.

In any event, you still have an 'inflammation' problem and need to find out what,...specifically 'WHAT' is causing your inflammation.

Once you find out 'what' is causing your inflammation, you can then, and ONLY then treat it accurately and successfully.

Taking aspirin/ibuprofen/naproxen sodium without knowing 'why' you are taking it may not be the best plan. But it could be as it just depends once again on 'what' is causing your inflammation.

IF the reason for the pain is overuse of the joint or wear and tear....then your best plan is to put much less stress on than particular joint thereby relieving your pain. This is done by regularly working out the surrounding muscles of the area in pain so the muscles will end up doing most of the work instead of the sore joint just being an overused hinge. This requires working out the affected area several days a week. You could also call it strengthening a specific area a.k.a physical therapy.

If your pains are due to improper nutrition, then eat mostly vegetables. Fermented veggies are just that much better. So is eating sprouts and Cruciferous vegetables.

If your pains are due to a good vs bad bacteria imbalance, then consume a daily maintenance dose of probiotics such as homemade Kefir and fermented Sauerkraut.

If your pains are due to inadequate water retention leaving you slightly dehydrated, then eliminate ALL caffeine products as they are a diuretic.

If your pains are due to lack of minerals being infused into your cells (like being magnesium deficient which most people are), then consume these minerals in a manner that your body can best absorb them. {transdermally for magnesium btw).

I could go on and on but the bottom line is you must first find the root cause of the problem before you can accurately address it. Doing anything but that is just guessing while possibly doing more harm than good.

Don't ever discount the value and importance of your diet, exercise, and rest. They are all worth 33 1/3 % each. It is what the human body runs on. Unfortunately, our nutritional, physical and rejuvenating requirements regarding these three essential elements has not changed for thousands and thousands of years. It is literally the same owners manual written 10,000 years ago that we must abide by still today.....or else!
