I am tempted to take on Morning Prayer, since I've had my recording done for a while now (and it gets worse whenever I try to record it again, so that one will do!)... but I'm afraid it's too hard for me. It doesn't look easy at all.

I have a spreadsheet that fixes up the list quickly and easily. Sorry I've not been around much.

I've taken Dipsy off Reverie and added myself to Morning Prayer. I don't want to see it not taken but if anyone wants it I'll change quickly to the Peasant Prelude. Just ask!

The Tchaikovsky Themed Recital is due to take place April 15.

To preserve existing selections, always QUOTE from the latest list then, in any order:

It's a beautiful piece and it's safer in your hands!

I played through it a couple of times last night. So glad it's in the recital - it's wonderful. And I'm glad Richard signed up because I was "this close" from saying - sure, it's playable, I'll do it. I know it would have taken way too much work to get from my sight reading to it being performance ready!!!

We have a nice roster of quarterly inter-mixed with themed recitals; starting now and taking us to May.

Perhaps a short summer break (June, July) will be in order leading up to the August quarterly recital. But hey, what then? I'm beginning to twiddle my thumbs with anticipation ...

Would there be enough time/interest to start thinking of the next, themed recital for September, October time frame? If so, suggestions for theme ?

Did we discuss this somewhere before and I missed it?

There were some themes mentioned before, long ago. I seem to remember Einaudi (or new age), Great American Songbook, Bartok (lots of things in the Mikrokosmos, but I've never played any so I don't know).

What it takes is someone to suggest something interesting, generate some interest with a thread, volunteer to lead the effort, and then start a thread where people can sign up.

Something Interesting: Yes, I recall newer age being mentioned and more specifically, Elton John and Beatles themes being discussed with some interest.

I will suggest --am suggesting-- broadening the scope further and just call it a non-Classical, Modern Themed Recital. Anything non-classical from 20th century forward is game and first time singers (with Piano accompaniment of course) highly encouraged. Or, would preference be towards a more specific theme; Elton John, Beatles or other

(Seriously, stop me from joining other recitals until I learn how to play a piece from beginning to end without stopping a thousand times and/or getting a heart attack!)

I've recorded a pretty decent take of my piece. How do I actually submit it? Do I just send the video link to the original poster (zrtf90)?

It's not my thread, Jeff, I just started it but important mission understood! Interrupt away.

We've not decided yet how we'll be doing this but it's most likely going to be the same as the quarterly recitals. The Joplin looks like going the same way a month earlier so we'll have a better idea of what needs doing after then. We'll also need someone to administer the thing, too, and I know my name's pencilled in but a volunteer might be nice.

In fact, PikaPianist, if you've already finished your recording...

Not too many weeks until the deadline!!! Having signed up for four pieces I have to start thinking about recording. And I realise that I have quite a few issues to handle before I get the music to the level I want. The easiest of "my" pieces is "May" from the "Seasons". But even this little composition is challenging enough. It is pretty hard to make the piece sound nice, and my overall goal is to play in a way that is enjoyable for the listener.

I'm still optimistic about being able to play all four pieces by April 15th. But I definitely have to focus.

Working hard to make music with Winter Morning. The moves look SO easy but... Good thing it's only 2 1/2 pages. Did anyone take The Lark? My teacher said she had to play that in high school and HATED it...still gives her nightmares. LOTS of ledger notes.

Well, "June" has definitely been on the back burner. I have to get the waltz for the Chopin Recital and the ragtime for the Joplin recital out the door first. Thanks goodness I only signed up for one Tchaikovsky piece!

Pfff, The Chant elegiaque is getting up to speed sort of. "Un poco di Chopin" is getting less attention from me, due to time shortage.
I'm also doing the chopin recital, but the nocturne is ready for recording.
I really need to push it for these Piotr pieces to become worthy of recording. I hope I am able to get it done in time!

I recorded two pieces yesterday evening, "May" from the "Seasons" and "Meditation". I'm almost sure, however, that I'm not going to submit any of these.

The recording of "May" was "just ok", but actually boring to listen to. I'm almost sure I'll be able to do better.
"Meditation" is an awfully difficult piece, but I have spent much more time practicing it, and the recording was more interesting to listen to than that of "May". Unfortunately I missed an important note on one of the most beautiful places and I played the double arpeggii in the left hand rather badly. Therefore I hope to be able to make a better recording of this piece.

Trying to record at an early stage is very useful. At least for me it helps pinpointing the parts where improvement is needed. I always get a bit tense while recording and this increases the risk of making mistakes on places I haven't practiced enough. Also listening to oneself while playing difficult stuff isn't always easy. Sitting back and critically listening to the recording gives a much better idea about how it actually sounds.

I have two additional difficult pieces to record. This means that there is no time to relax.

How much time is there left before a recording needs to be submitted? I'm doubting to have a go at hobbyhorse but I think it's a bit to hard. Maybe with a lot of practice I can give it a try..
