You know that feeling that your hands are never going to work together? Either the left or right alone can play a piece fine, but coordinating the two seems impossible?

Then after a while you get past the worst of it, and forget the mental state that accompanied it.

I've found a way to recapture it, and maybe that's valuable.

You're familiar with the Cup Song from Pitch Perfect? Here's Anna doing it on Letterman:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vP1Z5tmww4

It's a pretty easy rhythm, and I'm using it to accompany the youth choir as they sing a modern uptempo syncopated song in church this Sunday.

Well, playing it is easy enough, but singing along is not. Playing one rhythm with both hands while singing a completely opposite pattern is kicking my behind. I've got a couple days left to get it, and I think it will come, but it's not a guarantee.

It got me thinking about the nature of that uncoordinated feeling internally, and what to do about it.

Maybe we need more methods of accessing it.

Northern England.
I often wondered how Paul McCartney sang as he did and played a decent bass at the same time . . . .mind you, his singing was not legendary was it?

One night, sitting in my living room, I heard the strangest sounds coming from my neighbours' apartment..... lots of rhythmic noise and unbelievable laughter.

The next day I found out they'd been doing the cup song (not the singing, just the actions). When we had dinner together a few weeks later we played too -it was hilarious!
