Hi guys,

I'm new to digital pianos, but I'm currently looking for one for my apartment.
Just wondering what you think of the Kawai CL20? It's currently on auction for ~$300AUD. I don't have time to go try it out, either, so your opinion would be highly appreciated.

Thanks!

Found a thread where they are talking about the model:
http://www.pianoworld.com/forum/ubb...20Budget%20Piano%20-%20Kawai%20CL-2.html

They were talking about whether this model was worthwhile as a cheap option in 2009, so I think it would probably be better to find a more modern entry level DP.

Funny, I googled this model too after reading the OP's post, and was about to link to the exact same thread, but you beat me to it.

IF ALL it has to be is a dirt cheap practice piano, without any expectations of high-end sonic or performance results, it might well be good enough. But I certainly wouldn't purchase this unseen and untried.

I had the CL25 till recently. Beginner, basic, but very good touch, better than new more expensive models from other makers. Good piano practice model.

The CL20 has an older action, and only 32 notes polyphony. I'm sure that the action will be good.

But as with all used digitals you should make sure that there are no problems with the keys (funny noises, worn felts, loose black keys...). If they are present and so annoying that you cannot live with them, the price of a good service might be more than what the model is worthy.

With my CL25 experience, I wouldn't mind having the CL20 as a practice model, I know it will be good if you only need a good feeling 88 weighted keys, but really you should try it before buying. Or maybe ask the seller to confirm that there are no noises and the keybed is all fine. He might be able to put a video on YouTube playing every single note to check the sound, or simply play them for you on the phone.

BUT, I have seen CL25 here selling at 200 and even 150, and it's a better model than the CL20.

Of course, with second hand models the offer is occasional.
