Georgia's in the midst of an ice storm. My power went out about 6AM and will probably be out for a long time. Phone line and DSL still work (for now), and I have a generator that can power the kitchen, so I am still online - until the generator runs out of gas.

The good news? My 1927 Bechstein Model L needs no power!

I hope your piano sits right next to a big window so you can experience the glorious rain while you play. (or hail :D)

Not a good day for the trees of Georgia, I'm afraid. Best of luck Sam. Stay warm and practice lots. Hope you get your power back soon.

I was just reading about this yesterday! Be safe, Sam, and keep us posted. Wow, what a mess.

Unfortunately my digital does need power! It's still on as of now but I'm definitely not counting on having it for very long. I hope they get you fixed up soon and stay safe Sam S

The news from Georgia is scary. Stay safe and warm and try not to go out unless absolutely necessary.

A 1927 Bechstein..... do you have any kerosene lamps? Sounds idyllic!

Now the DSL is out, so I just have a smart phone. 9 hours and counting. I have one of those LED music stand lamps that runs on batteries so no excuse not to practice!

We`ve had horrendous weather (rain mainly) in the S of the country. Where I live, it`s been fine and sunny.

Until now . . . . .

I think everybody in our street will be hoping they don't hear that big crash . . . .

Portland, OR had been shut down for almost a week by snow and ice storms (today is our first day of full melt), but the weather has been so crazy everywhere else that our mess was no news at all.

I hope the majority of us are staying safe and warm, so we can send best wishes all who are stranded by the weather, or cut off from power, heat, or shocked internet.

Please step aside. You're standing in your own way.

It's been raining cats and dogs here in central Florida. Power and network off and on. We're OK at the moment. Nothing like what you're going through Sam. And nothing like the 3 hurricanes that hit us a few weeks after we moved here in 2004.

Hang in there Sam!

Sam, come on over. Hop on a plane and avoid that snow and frozen ice nonsense altogether. I just checked the weather here in Phoenix and they are forecasting near 90 degrees on Saturday.

Today I'm replacing the water pump impeller on my outboard engine to take the boat out. Melt those snowy sights with visions of the beach and bikinis my friend.

Hmmm snow and ice, as much as I'd like some snow... that storm seems a bit much! stay safe and practice, Sam smile

@peter

Yes, rain constantly... it just doesn't seem to want to stop!
I've been quite fortunate to be honest, I live fairly high up on the south east coast in Hastings. as for the west, I cannot begin to imagine what difficulties they are going through (I have seen a few valleys flooded here too).

24 hours now. Still not as bad as it could be. Used about half my gas for the generator and half my firewood. Biggest challenge is keeping my wife happy. If she's not happy, no one's happy. Just kidding, she's been great!

Good thing I got my recital submission in already.

Hey, Sam! Thanks for the report! I wondered on and off yesterday how it was going.

So, have you moved the refrigerator contents out to the back porch yet?

And to those in the UK - hm. Stay dry.

Power's back! 30 hours - not too bad. Of course, what made it come back was the fact that I made a trip to the gas station to buy more gas for the generator.

70*-80* in the winter [currently 84*,sunny, low humidity]
70*-80* in the summer [Sunny, low humidity]

Phoenix = winter
Flagstaff = summer

Less than 2 hour drive between the two locations.

You now have two options:

1.) Hate me
2.) Move

You can live in absolutely gorgeous weather year round if you choose to. It doesn't need to cost much either as the housing market in Arizona is still a little below 'value'.

There are very few places in our country where you can pull this off as you must have a very high mountain [elevation = cool weather] right next to a desert [for the warm winter temps].

If you decide to move, contact me and I'll help you with it the best I can. If not, well don't blame me as their is another option.

And remember, you only go through life once. The time that goes by will never be regained. for this reason, I put an extremely high value on 'time'.

This is the wisest thing I've ever heard you say, super-hunky. And it is so true. I don't think I could live in one of those places where you have to commute 1 hr+ to and from work.

Glad you hear your power is back, Sam. thumb

Kentucky is supposed to get another 1-3 inches of snow tomorrow, yuck. But next Friday: the forecast is for--get this--the mid 60s! yippie
