Just my luck… a guy offers me $5500 for an old clunker I paid $75 for. Thing is, I sold the piano about a year after I made this video. Old Piano Adventure; the saloon sound

I cleaned it up good, though I never tuned it, and had a ball with it for a year or so; I liked the way it sounded just the way it was. smile

I sold it to an elderly gentleman for $100, and he was thrilled with it. I figured it was worth $25 to clean out decades of dust and dirt and polish it up a bit. The same guy who offered me up to $5500 also offered me a commission if I could contact the guy I sold it to; unfortunately, I don't remember the guy's name. smile

Also, I never in a million years imagined the music video would garner over 580,000 views. Maybe I need to start a reality TV show entitled “Rickster’s old piano dynasty”. smile

I must say you made a fantastic video.. It is outright brilliant!
The piano sounds like nothing I've ever heard before. Very authentic!

Hi Rick,
That is a gem of a piano and you brought it to life with those great renditions. The sound is, as you say, unique and evocative of those bygone times of the piano in the saloon bar in the wild west.
I enjoyed your video very much.

Thank you.

Robert.

Amazing! I suggest you get another clunker (maybe even for free?), de-tune it a bit to great effect and post a youtube playing a good-old tune smile But next time, wait for the guy offering at least $5000 ! Maybe you can do this once per month and you will have your piano dynasty laugh

It is not so much the tuning that makes that piano sound, but the petrified hammers.

Tell the $5500 guy that you'll find him another one.

Rickster:

I hadn't seen the video before and I got a big kick out of it. Great playing and neat piano!

Rick, your video has made the rounds on Facebook. I can't remember how many people sent it to me...but they all seemed to enjoy it!

I had one a lot like that when I was in high school (though not with the birdcage damper setup) Mine was called Bachmann, also from Oregon, Illinois, which was a major piano building center in the late 19th - early 20th century.
