PHA IV ... Slightly heavier then PHA III , Softer feeling.... Right up there with the very best.

Just a quick note ... The RD-800 in no way feels flimsy or less substantial ten the RD-700NX. The textured finish on the front panel is similar to the CP4.

I hear ya... until I see it I should not comment. It just looks so plastic and cheap compared to the RD700NX , however, I know it weighs less, lots of upgrades, and looks pretty slick - a positive for sure. Also, that "tone knob control" might eliminate some of that metallic-like sound many complain about with SuperNatural.

Why did NAMM suck this year? Was there really anything new that wasn't repackaged and a derivative.
Surpised Korg didn't come out with anything greater than like 37 keys.
My friend Dave from Dayton, who tours with the renown Mick Seven blues band thought Casio would introduce a slab piano with good speakers and evenly spaced keys at least.
Is the P255 really that different from a P155?
Although Roland has the FA series, how come they didn't keep the digital recorder like the Juno?
Forgive me for being harsh as I haven't checked the updates on day 2. I heard there was like a MIDI headband that has 24-30 keys depending on the size of your head.
Its not just me- I went to the buffett next door to the GC and SA I am near and some employees from the different stores were shaking their heads on some of the items.

Forgot to add to my last post- got a free Dr Pepper at work today (2 came out of the machine, the 1st one was stuck, and then I got my money back out of the machine- put it back in and 2 came out!!!)

That was more exciting than the NAMM show this year. I do understand Korg just had the Krome, and Kronos but a 17 key keyboard doesnt cut it. Also, no way Schorder would play the toy piano- let alone Snoopy and Linus.

No split button, no expression pedal input.
The two massive fails of the PX5S ... if you overlook those two things (which if you are a serious live performer you really can't) the PX5S is easily the best board released in the past few years.

The MP11 - Oh my. It's been released/spotted in Calzone', Italy. Good Grief. Maybe their message rep. will speak some rumors and show a secret photo in a few months.
Say what you want about Roland and Yamaha, when they release a product, in most cases, like it or not, its available to purchase(not backordered).
Only wish either of them would build something like this for the home studio, wood trim, etc., this so we could just spend our money and save the story of Woe.

I agree. This NAMM is a snooze. No Kawai. No Casio. [...]

That's final? No Kawai in NAMM 2014? Bummer. I was waiting for that too good to be true MP11. Even if it has "only" a RM3II action I would be pleased.

Let's keep the MP11 rumors coming please cool

The body of the RD-800 reminds me of a Yamaha MOX.

MP11 , MP7 will happen. Simply not at this NAMM ;-) Can't be long though...either they suddenly show up, or come @ Musik Messe I assume.

Neither new incarnations of Roland , Yammie, Kurzweil, Clavia or Korg flagships in line of Kronos, Stage, PC3 , Motif or Fantom. Even if they strip the 'workstation' part, a good top instrument with all bells and whistles , controls (including AT) and connections (plenty pedals) would be welcome. I expect the next lines to be some kind of hybrids with excellent computer and tablet integration. Current Kromes, FA's, Artis and MOXF simply aren't top of the line pro-hardware wise, controller wise and in (sound-) features, so the brands are either still breeding on something, or 'this-is-it' and pro-boards are history. Not that you can't gig with these mid-range boards, they're really fine, but to start with the keybed it's simply sub-par to the best hardware and full feature sets these guys have to offer.

Roland RD800 is OK, but not a big surprise to anyone. No new home piano line from Yamaha (?!) Any significant sign of Physis K4/5 ? Casio is happy with their current line for now. Some new controller keyboards from Korg, Alesis and Akai, but nothing for 76 / 88 (piano-) key players to get real excited about. Probably enough toys for the hardcore synth boys , home hobbyists , iOS fanatics and DJ's but for more old-school keyboardists I think this NAMM was pretty lame. CP4 was already out; could have been the only 'surprise' if they released it at this NAMM instead.

I'll go back to my winter sleep now....zzzzzzz

Coming late to the show (was off to do more serious work) I just see the news about a Mac editor for the VPC1. Great news!

Thanks James and all others involved.

Yes, but all we know is "coming soon" so hopefully that means in a couple of weeks. We are not a patient lot!

If that editor has been ported to Mac, I think in short it will be avaiable for GNU/Linux,(Pianoteq has a linux version)

Thank you! I was trying to remember which board it reminded me of...I thought perhaps a Korg, but no, it's definitely the MOX!

Cheers,

It may be a little longer than a couple of weeks. A couple of months is perhaps more accurate.

I believe we have received only one request for a Linux version of the VPC Editor, whereas demand from Mac users has been considerable.

Kind regards,
James

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this!

As for a couple of months, did I mention we were impatient? :$

Yeah, we need to pressure the software piano makers first, then the hardware guys. Unless you are a dedicated and exclusive PianoTeq user, Linux doesn't help you with software pianos.
