I have an old EP-7 that was purchased new in the early '90s for my kids piano lessons. It stopped working several years later with the symptom being the demo plays perfectly but the keyboard would have random uncoordinated sounds. Most of the time no sound at all and sometimes a bass key produces a treble sound and a treble key produces a bass sound. Sometimes there is a significant lag between the key strike and the sound. The piano was put away in closets until now when I opened it up and discovered the infamous dripping RED GLUE problem. I took the keyboard apart and cleaned all the keys and contacts and put it all back together and now I am back to where I was in the '90s. The demo plays great but nothing but garbage from the key strikes. I took it to a local (Pasadena, TX) Roland service center and they said it was not repairable due to no parts. Surely there must be some way to try and diagnose the problem before tossing it in the trash? Any suggestions from anyone who might have had a similar problem? I have not checked each and every circuit trace on the strips under the keys so that may be the next step. They looked fine to me and have never been disturbed. I suppose some of the embedded diodes could have failed. If it's not the keyboard or the ribbon strips then I would suspect the problem has to be in the gate array IC on the main circuit board that interprets the keystrokes and send it on to the main CPU. I know these old pianos are not worth much but I hate to just trash it. Any suggestions?

Just found out that the ribbon cable where the pressure (glued)is holding it to the short jumper flex is a definite problem. This has 2 small plastic rivets holding the cables together.I can get all the bass keys to work if I hold pressure on the connection. Now I have a few notes on the higher note board not working I will post what I find there.

Thanks for your post! I am happy that there is someone out there that can relate to the insanity of trying to revive a pos like the Roland ep7
